Forums - Gaming - 18.6% profits up if no used games and a 33% price cut

$40 is still a lot for not owning the disc. I rarely spend more then $10 on Steam games.
Tropico 4 at $20 is the most expensive digital full game I have bought.

Now $40 with ownership, sure I'll buy more games, no problem.

They will do the first part, but they would burn the whole industry to the ground before doing the second part.

Like when CDs were supposed to make games cheaper

They did, new SNES/MD games were £50, N64 games £50-60.  PS1 games....£40, later £30.

PS360 = 50  and  3DS = 30  hmmmm    3DS games are cheaper than Wii games and I am pretty sure its not exactly cheaper to produce 3DS games then it was to produce Wii games.

COD can still be 60$, so can GTA, Gran Turismo and HALO. Games that will sell no matter what. What I would like to see is more budget-priced games, and by that I don't mean cheap downloadable titles.

I really don't see how an average game can compete with something like GTA at the same price point, a game that can provide hundreds of hours to top notch fun.

I know there is a stigma associated with budget titles, but I think people would get used to it if good games would launch at a lower price point.

Price is the decisive factor in all this. People today pay 60 dollars to "own" a game. If the console companies want to change the rules and instead sell you a "license" to play the game they 'd better lower the prices, a lot. Steam does this already.

With that extra profit, will they release better games and test them properly? no, of course not. Will it reduce the likelihood of success for new IP's and shrink the gaming industry? Most likely, yes

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

Honestly... take used games away... Lower the price by 33% and I'm down.

I'm down too...Games today aren't worth $60 IMO.

It cost approximatively 6$ for a 2 hours movie at a cinema, and 60$ for a 6 hours long game ...

Not buying incentive

Where do you live? In Germany it costs 8-10€ to see a movie (+ ~8€ for drinks+ popcorn/nachos) and 40-60€ (PC games are near 40, most console games between 50-60€) for a 6h long game. Still overpriced (if you don't include drinks and popcorn into the price for cinema), but not nearly as bad.

5.5 Euros for a movie in belgium (most of the time), and I buy all I need at the supermarket (Low cost potato chips 49 cents, 1.5 l soda, 45 cents)

where do you go?

I go to metropolis in Merksem, Antwerp. It's 10€ a movie here :l

If it finishes in -polis, it's expensive, always. I'm from Namur (Namen), there are two ones. Eldorado, 5.5€, and Acinapolis, 7€. But Antwerp is an expensive town.

Kinepolis are expensive too (I remember brussels, i felt raped. Until the movie began, that was Bolt)

Damn I'm jealous :p Because the other cinema in Antwerp is UGC and there it's also €10 :(

If they make the games cheaper. I am fine with it.

Am not so sure myself, even if both conditions are met, you're still looking at paying 66% for the game that you're not going to be able to resell, such as the case with any new IPs, either first or third party, single player games in particular, people would rather wait for the eventual price drop before taking a risk to test something new out, as I pointed out before, it will be a great breeding ground for cod and FIFA even if the second condition is not met, but beside that nothing much will likely sell except for the games which have solidified themselves as franchises in the past, and even then..

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.
