Forums - Gaming - Xbox One cloud is 'one area console has advantage over PS4', says Avalanche tech lead

Was about to post the same eurogamer article. It's not looking to great at the moment. In a few years, maybe. But now, there isn't anything special. I wouldn't be surprised if Sony has already has something similar in place but haven't talked about it it yet.

The Eurogamer article tells us specifically that AI and lighting are some of the ´parts of a game that could use the cloud so I really don't understand the guys saying it's PR shit.

The Avalanche dev didn't say we are going to push more polygons nor did he talk about adding pixels or additional details he was talking about an open World game(JC3) that relies heavily on AI and since AI is not latency dependent it could actually work pretty good

The PR speak is beyond annoying at this point. If you want to know how exactly cloud computing will be used in the XBox and if it is even feasible, I suggest you read this Eurogamer article on the subject. Do you research and form your own opinions.

You know this stuff can be feasible further in the life cycle right?

Yes but were talking long term here... maybe 10+ years at the earliest... the internet isnt mature enough, and the connections not fast enough. Of course MS will have replaced the unit by then.

are you saying the cloud capability of sony and ps4 is better than MS and  Xbox one?

I'm saying cloud processing by anyone (MS, Sony, Nintendo) will not work for games. It doesnt matter who its from.

I'm also saying that saying that any PR from any company saying their console will be x40 more powerful due to cloud processing, is BS.

so you didnt want to answer the direct question...and the main point of the articel

have another go.... who is best placed?  Sony or MS? (ninty clearly not at the races at this point)

Lol you are funny.

The title states, "XBox cloud is one area the console has advantage over PS4". I am saying doing it locally will be faster and any online tech wont be good enough to be implemented in this Xbox (or be better than doing it locally). So not being able to utilise it, isnt an advantage... not difficult to understand..no?

How about we wait and see how it develops?  if anyone can afford to build this.... MS can.  Nobody else in the gaming industry has the funds.

The point of this article was to say MS is best placed... thats obvious and undeniable.

Dont panic... it might come to nothing.

Money isn't the issue. I'm sure Microsoft has the funds to build the infrastructure to use this technology. It's like you didn't even read the article. I'll sum it up for you but you need to read the full article to really undertand it.

Cloud Computing/Processing isn't a good idea because
-Latency
-Bandwidth Caps
-Hugely varied internet speeds across not only states, but entire countries.

So unless internet companies start getting less greedy and offer better internet speeds and no bandwidth caps, this technology is useless. It's not enough to give it any sort of processing advantage over the PS4. Even then, latency would still be an issue. Local processing will always be faster than the internet. Why do you think Sony/MS went with an APU design? To minimize latency.

What!?

I'm be absolutely amazed, given MS has invested billions in its cloud services and is top or second globally (with amazon) and ahead of google.

How have they kept this massive infrastructure and expenditure a secret?

Really? it's a secrect? Gaikia buy out was annonced awhile back. They just havnt annouced talk about the cloud computing aspect of it, or really much about it yet.

But go ahead and act like Sony dosn't have it.

Your having a comprehension failure...

It doesnt say it gives it an OVERALL advantage, it says it is ONE AREA where it has an advantage.

It is quite clear.

And i'm saying its not an advantage... because its tech that wont currently work properly in the form that the PR people are spinning it.

I am being quite clear.. .you are just being awkward.

Nice. Ill listen to an actual developer who intends on using the cloud for processing over a guy who works for df at eurogamer. Rofl. But if you want to listen to an editor and not a third party pub who is gonna use then yeah cool.

The average speed of home broadband is now 12Mbps.. its taken 4 years to get to this speed, when the average before was 3.6.

MS marketing department -"guys.. guys.. we need to change our always online DRM policy and do something to mask the difference between the specs our product to those of our competitors."

"Yeah.. fuck that Orthy guy, he screwed up our plans. But how can we spin it in a way that makes it seem cool?"

Weeks later..

"Am I doing it right?" :o

"Well done lad" *gives a cookie*
