The fact that they aren't denying it is a little troubling.

""Humbled by the outpouring of passionate PlayStation fans and their willingness to talk to us directly. Please know that we hear you. <3""

If that doesn't tell you anything, I don't know what will. Read between the lines.

They did not listen when Sony was the first manufacturer ever to release online passes for their first party games.

You mean out of the big 3 right?

Microsoft doesn't need to since they have online play behind a paywall.
Nintendo doen't need to since online isn't a big part of their games.

Sony was the first to use online passes because they're the only ones that can.

I don't know how this is relevant though. Online Passes =/= DRM

i predict sony will indeed use DRM in its console which would be a shame, will be even worse if its always-on

Shuhei Yoshida confirmed the console doesn't have to be online at all to work. What that means towards drm, I'm not sure. Can games be locked without having to be online at all?

Well put it this way, I buy PS+ in 3 month allotments and when the time is up the games stop working even when offline do mabey they can do something similar for specific publishers who want to block used games. Would it not be easier to have to buy a pass? Ie buy a used game as normal but having to pay activation? But only if a minimal activation ie £2.99 with £2 of that going to publisher

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

I actually made a twitter account yesterday just to do my part. It's pretty cool to see them respond. Even if this has no effect, I think it's important that consumers make their voice heard.

Lol at MS fans hoping Sony goes through with DRM.

Hmm that's true. However, they would have to have places like GameStop sell passes or something similar for those who don't connect to the Internet at all. I think a small activation fee (like you stated) wouldn't be too outrageous. And for those of you who bash me and call me anti-consumer, I'll explain why I think a small fee would be ok. A friend of mine's roommate buys used games from GameStop, plays them, and then returns them within 7 days to get a full refund. He did this with Bioshock Infinite for sure (don't know what else). While this isn't the norm, it happens a lot I'm sure. From that exchange neither the publisher nor GameStop got anything out of the purchase.

So in saying that, I believe that a small fee is ok as long as Internet is not required for it (I don't have Internet half the time at my parents so that would suck). No fee is definitely better for the consumer and is much more attractive, but I understand the point of an activation fee and would be ok with it as long as it is not too outrageous.

when ms didnt clarify and did this kind of "tap dancing" the forum here went wild with "well they havent denied it"

No kidding, don't make to much noise!! They'll notice us and our "skewed" logic.

Though, if this does happen and Sony changes, will MS? My 360 is already connected 24/7 anyway like my PC, my girlfriends laptop, my mobile phone... So basically everything already. The only thing that will change for me is the reading of less MS/X1 bashing, whether Sony does DRM or not.

I'm still a firm believer that it will change the console gaming market for the better like it has with PC. Not seeing why you're laughing at our hope? All the sluaghter of late, we need the hope. Hope is our friend.

Hope.

do i need to get my eyes checked or am i actually seeing xbox fans in here opposing this?

It is what happens when u blindly follow, all i can say is that a lot of people cant handle being an Individual so it leads them to what we see here.

Next gen is bringing next generation levels of fanboyism!!

To be fair, Xbox fans on other sites havnt been so nice to MS of late...its only a handfull of Vgchartz users that are in every thread talking against Sony praising MS.

I actually cant comprehend how people are defending MS (or Sony if they go along with this). These issues are greater than your loyality to a certain brand.

Personally, I look at everything from a business standpoint.  I neither praise or condemn because there are a lot to the issue besides what gamers want.  In a perfect world gamers would be able to get all their games free or for pennies.  Gamers talk about how the publisher are greedy but they do not recognize their own greed.

Used games used to be a very niche thing that turned into a billion dollar industry.  When I go to Gamestop, they push you to buy the used game over the new.  I joined the power up club and I get used game points.  On my birthday, I received a 20% off a any used game instead of new.  It use to be that only Gamestop sold used games but now you can purchase them in grocery stores.  While the used game market is great for consumers and retailers who see those games, it kills developers and publishers who spent millions to make that game.

People point to steam saying that well we can get games cheaper thats why we accept the fact we cannot sell our games but then again isn't that the reason Steam can go that route.  Usually those good deals are actual deals which last a very limited time.  Publishers feel they can still sell games that no longer sell for cheap and still get paid and those games cannot be traded or sold to someone else.

People have used other media like DVDs, CDs and books.  DVDs cannot really be used because the creators make the most of their money at the box office so DVD subsidize their profits.  CDs have had some digital growth problems until Itunes came along.  Books on the other hand really never have this problem as most people probably purchase new and the cost to create the material is no where close to video games.  Actually if you look at it, Video Games are more dependant on retail sells than the other media.  DVDs has the box office.  CDs creators have their concerts where they make their money.  Books more on retail as well but the cost is much lower.

So to sum this all up, there needs to be a balance to the 2nd hand sell now that it has compromised the creators ability to make a profit.  If everybody gets what they want besides the creators, well the system cannot continue.  I am not saying MS  way is right or wrong, its just a way where we might see many different scenerios that come into play to solve this problem.

Wow! xbox fans WANT the DRM nightmare to happen on PS4 too while Playstation and Nintendo fans don't want it to happen on any console no matter if they are not planning to buy it.

Curious, which posts did you get that from. I didn't see any posts saying they want DRM to happen on PS4.

As for the response, I really don't see anything in their responses that answer  the DRM question. The one that says they are listening could mean something or it could mean nothing at all. Hopefully everything will be made clear by E3.
