Forums - Gaming - Adrian Chmielarz (Bulletstorm Dev) On Xbox One Reveal: “I Don’t Think Anyone from Sony Lost Any Sleep”

When the interviewee says "I don't think anyone from Sony lost any sleep", it means he basically thinks Sony sees no threat due to the conference, which is crazy because whether the games are shown or not, Sony witnessed the unveiling of the competing platform and the specs as well as the overall strategy being unveiled.

I understand what you're saying but that barely transpired in OP, and the conclusive remark of the author "he kind of makes sense because Sony had games at their unveil" just makes it more clear that this article is either uninformative or misleading.

So microsoft targetted another audience than gamers at their conference is reason for Sony not to lose sleep, color me educated.

i guess i would take a slightly different meaning to that phrase.  i lose sleep when i get really worried about some problem so big i don't think i can overcome it.  i don't think sony thinks MS is "no threat" or can be dismissed but it has to be reassuring as well that it isn't one giant love fest of MS and someone saying "sony who?".

..and my opinions are my own regardless of what is stated in the OP.

People giving the victory to Sony or dismissing Microsoft because they didn't show games at their reveal, no matter who they are, do not understand the nature of the business.

I agree with dana that the audience for the reveal was poorly communicated, but that doesn't change the fact that their strategy is viable in a mainstream society that doesn't often revolve around gaming.

The problem is the only people at the reveal were gamers and techies.  The people that Microsoft were aiming this event towards are more than likely not even going to see or hear about the console for months to come, so why didn't they just cater to the audience that they knew would be viewing the event?  The press conference showed that they Microsoft was less focused on the gamers, but who didn't already know that?  How many 360 exclusives in the past three years have most people actually been interested in  that isn't Kinect based?  Not many.

That wasn't even the only problem though.  That's only part of the problem.  Once we found out all those rumors we didn't want to believe were true.  That's when it went from standard crappy Microsoft event to, oh hells no.

A couple other devs share the sentiment..

A Lead Core Gameplay Designer from DICE had this to say

I think Gen4 is now Sony's game.

To which a Senior Designer at EA DICE responded: agree

:O That is a bit surprising given EA's "partnership" with MS

It really is surprising. Somebody tip Kotaku! LOL

I don't disagree. Ultimately I believe that MS should have better strategized how they communicated that conference to the target audience they were actually reaching.
