Forums - Microsoft - Official statement on Xbox One and used games

it is not. It is about a statement from MS.
Feel free to make one though.

What is this statement in regards to?

Come on bro, seriously? Did you even read the statement?

"Over the paste few days, we have been reading comments and message boards following the Xbox One announcement. There are a few questions regarding used games. I wanted to clarify and provide this official statement:"]

You're really going to sit here and tell me this thread isn't about people and the issues surrounding the used game market? It is the sole reason for the statement.

So why don't they go ahead and explain it then?

They're obviously still in the decision making stage of this.

I'm truly torn on the subject of used games.

On one hand I think we should have the freedom to buy and re-sell as we please. This will solve the problem of not being able to find games that are no longer in print like I had to do with 3D Dot Game Heroes. Also like most have stated it allows you to bring games over to friends house to play.

BUT I find it 100% immoral to buy a used copy of a game when the new copy is available. Regardless of what you all may think developers are losing out on profits THEY should be getting because what you can save maybe $5-10 on a game. If you really want to save a few bucks just wait untill theres a sale.

For example, I was really interested in Bioshock Infinite but never played the first 2 so even though I could get a pre-owned copy for far less than the new (employee discount is massive on pre-owned games) I just waited for a good sale and sure enough it was on sale for $45 a few weeks later.

In short I think pre-owned games should be bought as a last resort if you can't find a new copy and everyone should just buy new. even if it means waiting for a sale.

That stage should have been finalized months ago and they should be going full steam with their stragety right now

Haha! Didnt take them long to put the car on reverse.

Too bad! I was looking forward to the epic crash.

Why? It's not like they need to be in a rush. Console doesn't come out for 6 months.

Remember; nothing is certain with products until they actually come out.

Which means it's a perfect time for us consumers to let our voices be heard.

In theory, but there's very little room for them to change the fundamentals of this regardless of how much backlash they get. They have built a whole system around making you log in every so often (going to see your parole officer, let's call it) and have supposedly been building partneships with retailers to handle used games (though apparently not with Gamestop, whose president knew nothing about it and whose stock is down 20% this week) which retailers will love because it cuts out mom & pops and private sellers and third parties will be jazzed that for a little while longer they can pretend they don't have to get budgets under control and make a wider variety of games because that awful, terrible used games "problem" is solved and everything will be fine now and and and

Plus, this is Microsoft. They often launch products that get iffy first reactions and still won't change anything until it flails once it hits the market. Sometimes not even then. They also have reason to believe that this negativity is confined to the enthusiast segment of the market. Even the enthusiast press isn't really beating them up about this. Most of the outrage seems relegated to forums. So it's doubtful the average consumer knows or cares about this stuff.

Long story short, they want to do this and they will do this.
