Forums - Microsoft - Rumor: Retail sources detail how pre-owned sales will work on Xbox One

What's the incentive for a retailer to agree to this? "It's better than nothing"?

Unsure how I feel about this. Gonna need to think about it some more before I comment properly.

With this they can charge higher prices for second hand games, and with that first hand games can keep a high price for a longer time.

Retailers get more money the higher prices are, so this helps them.

At the end, we are the ones who will lose money.

If i buy the right to play a game, it is mine to do as I please. I am free to sell/lend/trade it and devs should stop with this shit. the copy of the game was already paid for, it's not being replicated, just being passed to someone else.

and what about countries without those stores? i never intended to buy xbox one but the other brazilians who do will be stuck with the games.

There's no way that retailers will accept eating such a huge chunk of the sale just for the privilege of selling the games used. I'm sure it'll be WAY smaller for them, so as to strangle private sales and force people to go to the big stores.

The notion that they expect such a fee to be applied across the board makes the rumor seem highly suspect.

When faced with giving away a piece of royalty.......or blocking all used game sales entirely......it is a easy choice to make IMO.

This is great news because it makes used game sales income go back into the industry, rather then just benefit the retailer.

the sales income already reached the industry with the unused game sell. this is an imoral act of microsoft and devs, taking away the right of consumers over the product they purchased.

All they had to do was ask for a cut of each used game sold and the problem could have been solved that easy

How would that be tracked? It can't, as that relies on the "honor system". Retailers can easily lie and just sell it under the table. This makes everyone accountable.

Again, this isn't a gamer problem anymore, its fixed (if true). This is a retailer problem now.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I'm actually less okay with then with no used games at all... it basically cuts out the little guy and just helps out Game Stop, whom I despise.

Between Windows 8 and the Xbone Microsoft is losing a lot of good will with me.

so i can sell used but only to those that MS deems worthy of being a reseller like (probably) gamestop. knowing MS policies to date this will probably be very strict with only a few "approved" resellers and i wouldn't put it past MS to make regional "exclusivity" agreement.

better than the rumors? yes, but just barely.

btw, if this is true, and GameStop or whomever gets $3.50 per game, how much is the consumer going to get?

without a free market there is only one answer,..   whatever MS and their approved partners are willing to give you.

you know what else occured to me that is pissing me off about this.  say there is a ma and pa type shop that is currently selling used games.  first i'm 100% postive they weren't part of the process as MS undoubtedly only asked their "retail partners" aka gamestop.   ma and pa shops are basically is at MS mercy to whether or not they can say in business and will basically have to agree to whatever terms MS is willing to give them.   some people are saying gamestop must be pissed but i'll bet they are extatic about this.  without ebay, craigslist, ma and pa shops, amazon, best buy in the mix gamestop is probably going to have a near monopoly on the used game market.   they probably were thrilled to give MS 10% back in exchange for the entire market..

..and i even if ma and pa shop can get one of MS's propreitary Azure systems into their shop how much would you bet that MS is going to require them to pay for the installation of the server?  And how much do you want to bet that server is locked down by MS and becomes a part of MS's could?   remember those 300,000 servers MS bragged about for their cloud service?  well i can see it now... MS is positioning themselves to get payed twice for the same product.  consumers pay to access the cloud that retailers payed to create.

This is a terrible policy. It makes the disc really no different than a download and guarantees that selling your own copy to someone else via eBay/craigslist/whatever impossible. Why would anyone buy a game off of you without knowing 100% that the game has been unassociated with your account and run the risk of paying the price on eBay plus whatever the "game is associated with another account fee" on top of that? In short, they wouldn't.

If this is really how it is gonna be, I hope no one buys the xbone. On the bright side, this does mean that they can have your downloaded games be resellable via some marketplace. So many negatives though to outweigh that positive

......this is a retailer problem. Essentially they make profit, just less, and the royalties to back to the 3rd parties, Sony, and MS. The gamer still trades in his game, lets back a fraction of the origional cost, and he goes about his way.

I hope I don't have to say this to every Sony fan....if true, this means its a retailer problem, not a gamer one.

one more thing, what happens when the system and games are discontinued? a game is supposed to be playable forever, now once support for the xone is over, the games are either stuck to their owners or lost forever.

My snes and N64 collection was 90% obtained in the last decade as used games. with xone that won't be possible.

If all the rumors are true then the bone screws

*people with no, or flaky, internet
*people who borrow games from friends
*people who do not want to sell their games to a retail store.

I'm all for helping devs get a cut of 2nd hand sales but not at this high of a cost. I hope Sony doesn't do anything similar.
