Forums - Nintendo - Project X Zone demo is up!!!! First impressions.

Oh, the demo is up now. I didn't realize June 4th was on a Tuesday. I am just used to demos being available on Thursdays when the regular updates to the eShop happen.

I liked the demo, but I'm not sure I understand how the battle system works entirely.  Probably will look through the tutorial or something.

Just finished the demo and it was....ok.

I only smashed A and the D-pad a bunch of times and until I won, while occasionally pressing L or R, didn't find any challenge at all. I imagine the whole game will have more options.

The combat is really nice though, lots of flashy attacks with some really nice combos, but I fear this is the type of thing that is really cool for a few missions and then it gets repetitive.

This is apparently Demo A, so there's probably more demos on the way and I will try those as well. So far it looks like a decent game, but not at a full price.

That's quite easy: press A.

I read the tutorial thing and actually it rewards you for using certain combinations and timing the attacks correctly.

Meh.

But it's not my type of game though. I hate games where there's too much indescribable stuff on the screen that makes it look way more complicated than it is. That's also why I usually don't like JRPGs, all those numbers; just go away! Besides that, I failed to see the point. I just randomly mashed some buttons.

Well, what you have is you have your regular attacks that give you the % you need for your special attacks.  Getting close to other members on the battlefield will allow you to use them for extra attacks, and properly timed attacks gives you a critical bonus that can really make the difference between killing the monster in one go or having to wait another turn to beat it.

Also, it rewards you with another attack if you use all the attacks you have available on your list at least once.  For example if you have just "A", "left A" and "right A" available, you have 3 attacks you can use, you have to use some combination that uses all three of them and you are allowed one more attack.

Yeah figured that out at least.

I'm sure there's tons of stuff and tactics to be found, but I'm not willing to put in the effort to find them in these types of games. I tried the demo just to see, but Fire Emblem remains the furthest I will go in this genre .

Haha that's okay.  However it seems like some of the others here don't know that the game isn't just mashing buttons and placement of your person on the battle field matters just as it would in Fire Emblem.  Of course, I don't blame them because the thing it shows before you start the demo doesn't tell you all of that stuff.

I like the game as I figured I would, and I would like to find out what is even going on haha.
