Well they just read the stuff from the US patent office... there is a link in the article |
i thought this was old was filed in 2011 just becasue they patened it doesnt mean they are going to use it.
also with out knowing the number at which it would charge more cant really say its a bad thing yet. for all we know the number is more then 20 so people cant make money by throwing a come see this new movie for only a dollar type thine

I'm pretty sure this is old news.
Plus, Microsoft hasn't officially stated that it is going to use this, so there's no point in getting upset about it unless they do.

Yeah, that's right! That's one possible application for mandatory Kinect. Also, this is ridiculous: I imagine it's rentals this will affect, but guess what! I doubt people rent movies alone, they rent them with their friends etc. This patent could potentially be about multiplying the basic fee (in practice). That said, they haven't done anything yet so judgement shouldn't happen so quickly... But this is a horrible idea. Not only that, this isn't even an innovative idea. I don't understand why things like this can even get patented.

Reporting facts is a bad thing now?

For a fan of a console being smacked upon for two days straight all bad news become biased. Not differnet from some of my reaction towards a certain big publisher refusing to develop for WiiU and somewhat refusing to develop for PC out there...
I believe this was posted months ago.
Anyways if this is simply to be used as an excuse to charge more for rentals and services then it would really suck. However, if it could be used to be able to watch movies while they are still in theaters in your own home, that would be completely awesome.
Either way though I doubt we'll see much of anything from this because companies patent all sorts of things all the time but many don't get implemented in much of anything.
As someone else said, it's a patent. Nothing is a feature of the Xbox One.
Also this would be available to the content provider, it isn't necessarily automatic. If 20th Century Fox/Disney doesn't care that you have seven people watching Star Wars: A New Hope, but Sony Pictures wants to charge a ticket price for each viewer of Spider-Man, than it would be Sony Pictures that you'd want to bitch about not Microsoft.
Where this could be cool is, let's say a movie studio decides to make a Block Buster movie available for home viewing on the day and date of release in theaters. So for a ticket price of whatever theaters/cinemas pay to studios, you can view the movie from your console in your home. But as with a theater/cinema seat, everyone pays a ticket price if they're there watching the film.
That would seem like a good use for the technology. Doubt it'll ever happen, because I don't think you'd see that with a blockbuster movie but rather something intended for direct-to-dvd or direct-to-on-demand., but we can all hope and dream.
Reminds me of that book 1984, the world looks to be heading into that direction. What i dont understand is...with all the fuss about invasion of privacy are microsoft fans really not bothered about Kinect 2.0 "always listening"
