Forums - Microsoft - why all the negative comments on the xbox one?

The only thing I find weird about is half the people yelling about how they hate it claim they love Steam.

When basically MS is just turning their console into a more highly featured Steam box

No one wants a Steam box that cost $400+ dollars. I'm sure if Valve makes a physical Steam box - people will say the same thing.

If I have a PC that can Stream shows/sports, Have Steam/Origin/Uplay/whatever DRM, be able to do general stuff such as using the basic Microsoft programs such as Word/PowerPoint/etc for projects relating to school/work, have a decent browser like FireFox/Google Chrome, be able to get access to a wide variety of other programs for other uses (i.e. work related programs such as coding programs for programming, etc), movies, music, etc - why would I buy something that is far limited for $400+ and on the top of that have to pay a subscription fee on top of my internet fee?

If Sony does the same thing - I'll look at it the same.

Also the difference between Steam and the Xbox One is in the next couple of years providing Valve stays afloat and sure it will - Steam will be b/c with Windows/Mac/Linux while Xbox One games will probably not be b/c with Xbox Two system.

Honestly day one of taking orders on the Xbox One wait list was massive.

Apparently a LOT of people want a Steam box with Xbox exclusives and media features. I think people are going to be shocked how huge this is going to be in America. Bigger than the 360 probably.

Not saying orders will be small or anything especially in North America where Microsoft has the advantage.

Of course people want a Steam Box with xbox exclusives - I'm sure they want Nintendo exclusives and Sony exclusives too.

Not so sure about media features since you can easily get them on PC.

Enthusiast PC gamers are tiny part of the gaming marketshare. Maybe 7-8% being generous.

It's because:

1. More focused on TV (sports) and Kinect nonsense than showing the games.

2. No gameplay shown for the games they did reveal.

3. The box is beyond ugly.

4. The name 'Xbox One' is insanely bad.

5. Xbox One is fairly underpowered compared to the PS4.

6. M$ are burdening every Xbox One owner with Kinect.

7. Having to install every game to the console for M$'s permission to play your game.

8. M$ will charge a fee for used games.

9. Controller still takes AA batteries.

10. Must be connected to the internet at least once a day even if you just want to play a single player game.

11. Still have to pay to play online (don't know why I thought that would change, maybe after the Xbox One fails they make it free next time).

12. It's not backwards compatible, I get why PS4 isn't because it's a completely different architecture but I expected Xbox One to be.

I love my Xbox 360 but personally I'm glad M$ dropped the ball so hard, now I can save loads of money and not buy multiple consoles again. PS4, you will be mine day one. Xbox One, when there's a smaller version under £150 with loads of games I'd be interested in owning you, that won't happen for a LONG time, so meh.

I have been ignoring pretty much evry post for the last two days but I want to point out that you can sell your games.  That has been confirmed.

Also do you consider PC gaming not owning your games?

I'd see it more as selling you're membership to a service. If I have to have daily authorization to use something I don't see myself as owning it, though I do realise not everything falls clearly into a black and white ownership situation for me personally this feels more like a service.

I only consider it as owning games on the PC if I have a DRM copy of it that the publisher cannot prevent me from playing. Games I buy on steam I consider myself paying for access to the game rather than having ownership of the game.

I'm really extremely disappointed, hopefully someone new enters the ring soon, because I dislike all of the new consoles.

Edit: One thing I can't stand in this thread though is the blatent hypocrital bs about BC, no console except the nintendo one, just like this gen, and of course the xbone doesn't have BC it had a totally different cpu architecture, powerpc vs x64.

That doesnt tell me anything nor does it affect me since I'm not really a pure PC gamer.

And if what you say is true then the amount of people who want a Steam box is less than 7-8% especially with all the "Enthusiast PC gamers" cough pirates.

Your right they dont want a Steam Box.

They want an Xbox One and dont care about the Steam like features.

No one is going to buy it when you can build a gaming PC for cheaper lol.

Agreed, still, if Steam is headed in this direction also... Who's next?

Steam isnt going to be exclusive to hardware nor do I think they'll make the hardware - didnt the rumors and buzz say they'll have third party hardware producers making the hardware while they themselves will only work with the OS being running on Steam or something holding on to Steam like Linux.

Sorry, didn't make my last post too clear. I meant with DRM. Xbox ONE wasn't the first "console" to have it. As for the hardware thing, I thought it was a 50/50 thing... Might look it up.

Lol, just look at the sig of the majority of these bad comment posts :)
It says everything. Myself and my entourage who is already like the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live have nothing to complain about...
The only thing that may bother few of us (not myself as I do not buy used game) is the used game thing but again it will be the same with the PS4...

Overall, we were all VERY impressed with the Xbox One. I cannot wait for E3 to see the games too.

MSFT isn't keeping you from playing the game.  You are allowed to do with the game as you wish.  It is just like steam with the verification on the install.  However you can not resell games on steam or PC at all.  This allows you to resell your games.  So in other words it is like Steam but with a little more options.  The whole topic has been blown out of proportion as this is nothing new.  Just for consoles.  Sony has even said they are letting publisher/developers do the same thing.  This generation will change the way console gaming is forever no doubt about it.  But im sure both MSFT and Sony will offer great games that gives people a reason to buy these consoles FOR GAMERS.
