Forums - Gaming - Could XboxOne disrupt the market by only targeting non gamers

Can the xbox change the console market ?

Yes 15 18.07%

No 27 32.53%

Lol 25 30.12%

I'm a core gamer and wan... 16 19.28%

Total:83

The Xbox One targets "hardcore casuals" who play Call of Duty, Madden, FIFA etc... the best selling games.
Don't complain that the new Xbox doesn't have JRPGs it's Xbox! You know what you are getting.

you mean like what the wii did this past gen? Yes!

No, wii adressed casual and core gamers. They don't attract core gamers right now.

Nintendo was a strong core audience brand. Xbox is just a newborn

You're not serious are you.

The Wii appealed to both. Because the appeal was in the software. The "hardcore" loved the Mario Galaxy games and stuff like Muramasa and Smash Bros.

it didn't get the third-party support and the console didn't last because of it.

The console didn't last because Nintendo stopped making the correct games for it. Third party support didn't make the Wii explode in sales when it did either. It's the games that count, not who made them.

The Wii did it, so I dont know why they cant.

The Wii launched at $249 and had a USP. The Xbox One will come in at double that price, with just more advanced tech and nowhere near the innovation as the Wii.

I just don't see casuals picking up a $450-$499 device.. just so they can to daisy chain their consoles to cable/satellite boxes, stream things and for the other Kinect features.

You cant see Americans do that? With the cellphone market coming out with new phones every year like EA? The prices of these small phones are ridiculous. They still enjoy lofty initial sales.s

Yes, consoles are comparable to phones and tablets.

I dont think Nintendo and Microsoft got the memo on the distinction. The only one who has stayed away from cellphone or tablet influence is Sony.

Are you seriously thinking of COD and Ea sports' games as Core games ?

If you said Skyrim or Battlefield I could understand, but that is just ... Naive.

The core audience is an audience that is loyal, buy a lot of games and like to try new things.

COD and EA sports fans play 4 hours a week (on a year basis, not right after their game came out) and most of the time play one or two different franchise. This is no core players. it's casual.

Casual is not only mario.

Considering that the new Xbox almost feels like it was designed primarly for the American market, of course. Outside of NA, the more media centric features like cable/TV intergration and streaming/other services won't be as much of a big deal as much MS would have you beleive.

Cell phones are another matter. I'd wager that the general public are more willing to spend more of their money on smartphones, tablets and other computing devices, rather than on consoles. In any case, none of the new consoles are going to disrupt the market in any way or form (from what I've seen).

I wonder if kinect will be taken out (and reduce costs) in countries that have a language not supported (most of europe).

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.
