famousringo said: Yep, pretty dull stuff. In case this forum hasn't figured it out by now, I blame the publishers. They've sucked nearly all the profit out of the hardware makers and used it to dictate homogeny to the point where consoles compete on TV (really?) and social features. Miiverse is cute, but I sure as hell didn't buy the Wii U for it. I picked up the Wii U because there's a glimmer of innovation in the gamepad and because I wanted more Monster Hunter, but I was secretly hoping Sony or MS would have the balls to try pulling something radical with gaming. Microsoft has decided to be radical in catering to publishers and selling cable boxes. Sony has decided that it doesn't have a radical bone in its body. |
the problem with sony is they dont have the money this time around to be too different they needed to mirrior the XBOX as much as possible while still being different, i think the gddr5 was a good choice, i would have rather seen another power based CPU... not a cell but something.
MS i think messed up bigger go x86 then ppc then x86 thats messed up unless they gives original xbox bc but they wont. they have taken a brand they have built up for 2 gens and whored it out. they will kill it this gen... maybe they can recover but right now they are burning bridges to bilk a little more cash, there are better ways to bilk cash than what they are doing.... and they could have real pushed hardware if they had wanted to with either x86 or PPC but instead they moved to make a cheap box to turn a profit, and then depend on the buzz of social and hope they can backend game with the "cloud" to deliver great game play… boy i cant wait for the first halo on that console where you have to wait weeks so that the backend servers are not overwhelmed and you don't get degraded experience like the new shitter sim city. XBL has ha issues after almost every christmas, now that games may require it to offload some gnu cycles that will make it sooooo much better. and boy hope you have a good internet plan and no latency or poor quality line in your area.
the use of normal ddr3 shows the gnu will either be memory starved by bandwidth or availability or woefully underpowered,
but who knows maybe MS will show something at E3 to change my mind.
sorry for the rant i have been dreading this reveal hoping i was wrong, and it was worse than i thought….
as for nintendo … they went half in should have pushed further with the idea or binned it …. interesting but the hardware they have is just not right… it will have some great games, but will be limited by design choices ….
