Forums - Nintendo - UPDATE- June 11th 7AM PT, 3PM BST! Wii U Direct incoming! 3D Mario, Smash Bros, Mario Kart and more!

This is really weak.

Nintendo has only cultivated 4 big IPs :  Mario, Zelda, Metroid and Pokemon.
They've let other IPs become somewhat secondary: Kirby, Donkey Kong, Earthbound...even Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing nd Pikimin are not that big and only speak to fans.
Then there are only these two derived IPs that are huge: Mario Kart and Super Smash Brothers.

So yes, the fact that they're already releasing Mario Kart + 3D Mario + Super Smash Bro + a Zelda now shows that not only they're desperate but they're also going to either run out of IPs OR WORSE (for the futur) they're going to milk their IP and have them lose all their value.

Lol. They are not going to release all those in 2013. No way! At the end 2014, they might all released. One might even slip into 2015.

And how is this desperate at this time? They launched those franchise on the Wii very quickly. Even a launch with Zelda.

But they aren't going to release them now, they will release them in the span of 2 years. That's almost half the typical lifespan of a Nintendo Console.

Please excuse my bad English.

U do realize Zelda, Metroid, Mario Kart, 3D Mario, Smash Bros all released In the first 18 months that Wii was available right?

This SEEMS to be good, but trust me it's REALLY BAD.

Usually you would have to wait after 1 or 2 year to get a Mario Kart, 3D super Mario or Super Smash, and each game would be separate from at least 6 months or a year.

The fact that they're already pushing these titles show two things:
- They're desperate for titles and attraction to the Wii U
- Once they've release all these IPs, either they're not going to have any other big IP left OR they're going to fall into IP milking

Idk about all that, I think they will be able to spread out there major franchises for 3-4 years. Something similar to this I think is likely

2013

Aug-Pikmin3/LuigiU

Sept-W101, Wii Party

Oct-Wind Waker

Nov/Dec-Wii FitU/Mario Kart

2014

Q1-3D Mario

Q2-Smash Bros

Q3-Retro project (Metroid)

Q4-Zelda/Wii Sports U

Yarn Yoshi/Bayo2/X/Sonic lost World mixed in between

2015-16

F-Zero/Star Fox/Kirby/DK/Nintendo Land 2/NSM World/ZombiU 2/exclusive Tales

Plus a couple new ips/more exclusive partnerships and 3rd party multiplats

Wii U should get a healthy amount of releases thru 2016, every Nintendo home console is supported for about 4 years.

Exclusive Tales??

You forgot to mention Animal Crossing and Paper Mario. Animal Crossing would make the sales to explode in Japan.

I still have paranoid nightmares that Retro's game is Mario Kart...

Don't even joke about that. It's not funny...

I wasn't joking, I am legimitimately afraid.

I'd be so crushed if it were true, I've been waiting for their next groundbreaking masterpiece for years now, to find out it's just another Mario Kart would be a slap in the face to Nintendo fans.

Id be surprised if Wii U didnt get an exclusive Tales game, GC and Wii both had one and according to vgchartz Symphonia on GC is the best selling ttales game ever. There were also rumors that Lloyd would be in the new Smash so that could be a way to get people interested in a Symphonia remake/sequel

Good catch I didnt even think of them, Battalion Wars, Sin & Punishment are also likely. Hopefully Custom Robo returns

I think the mistake with NSMB U was that it was released too soon after the 2D Marios on the Wii and in particular the 3DS.

Sales of the Wii U will explode when 3D Mario and Mario Kart 8 are released.

People also have to remember that Nintendo have plenty of IPs that haven't been tapped for years and are perfectly capable of bringing new IPs to the proverbial table.

We're bound to see both Wave Race and F-Zero at some point as well as a Starfox game of some description, and maybe another Kid Icarus game.

I agree with u about NSMBU but also its the only major 1st party game out right now and at $350 thats not enough to push significant hardware. Mario Kart+NSMBU+Pikmin3+Wind Waker HD+Wii Fit U combo should be able to sell alot this Holiday

I am enjoying Nintendos new direction by having the directs. Seems like we get a new exclusive with each one they have. Plus with them showing off/announcing games this early, they must have something really big in store for E3.

This... I have high expectations for the E3 ND. Even without showing any new (at least that we know) smash, X, mario kart, 3d mario, yarn yoshi and  retro's game would be awesome... I also very positive we are going to see SMTxFE!

That is pretty crazy though - getting three huge franchises within the same year?

I think one of them at least will be released this year while the other two - one in the beginning and one at the end of next year.

Pikmin 3 will surely pick up a bit for the Wii-U around the late summer/early fall time and possibly a 3D mario or SSB4 for this late fall/early winter. (Just guessing ;p).

I can see SSB4 being released in time for christmas/BF kinda like how Melee was released.

No way Smash Bros. comes out this year. Nintendo doesn't rush things just to get them out. If they did, they would have had games out during the first half of 2013. That is doubly true for Smash Bros. I seriously doubt there will be any playable version of the game this year even, just pics, if we're lucky MAYBE some kind of promo video. They literally just started development at some point late last year, as far as I recall.

As for 3D Mario and Mario Kart, I think there's a chance we could get both this year, but then again.
