Forums - Nintendo Discussion - No More Heroes gets a decent vindication.

@akuma: The japanese sales were a dissappointment to most people, although it's the best selling Suda51 game in Japan. After the Japan dissappointment expectations for NA were pretty low and it's now beating these expectations.

Man, I got quoted five times in a row. I think that is a record!

I am not trying to ruin anybody's day, just offering a different perspective. I would personally like to see the game do well, so I am not just hating or anything like that. If I had a Wii this would definitely be one of the games I would pick up.

People aren't responding because we think you are "trying to ruin anyone's day," but we are responding to the claims of fanboyism. You seemed confused why a Wii game was being called a success when PS3 games with similar sales were called flops. What exactly were you expecting in response to your post?

For people to realize that 5,000 first week sales in Japan and not even 40,000 first week sales in America is nothing to get that excited about.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S.  For a Suda game that is something to be excited about though. That is what all 5 of the people who quoted you have said, and I am saying again. This is a record high for a Suda game and that is very exciting for his fans. It is not good news for the Wii in general, but no one is claiming it is.

For most games. However you should realize that for a Suda game it is something to get excited about.

For example. Say you've got your favorite Indy punk band vs like... Linkin Park or something. (the actual still trendy bands are totally a loss to me right now.)

Now say the next Linkin park CD doesn't sell half of what it's supposed to... and gets completely bashed

and the Indy bands CD sells way more then that Indy band has ever sold before in it's first week.

It's like that. Linkin Park still sold more CD's... yet which one should you get excited about?

That's the real point. It's worth getting excited over the fact that "punk isn't dead."

Actually consideirng the games low budget and Grasshoppers standard low sales numbers 40,000 first week is REALLY good. For a game like LAIR it's opening week was good but overall the game was a failure. You also need to remember LAIR cost many times more to produce than No More Heroes. As far as Folklore, I'm not sure how it did but I can tell you I bought it and I was dissapointed heavily..

Remember currently Grasshopper Manufacture, YES that's right SUDA does not singlehandedly make these games, consists of 48 people total... that's almost 1,000 games sold per employee that's not too bad lol

Why do you think I put the word "decent" in the thread title. That basically is saying it's nothing to get excited about, just pleased it's doing better over here.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Fair enough, and I am glad to see a game with this level of grassroots support. I hope you all are enjoying playing it.

América love this class of games and Europe too

It was a lot of fun. Already beat it though which greatly disturbs me. Normally i'd feel it was way to short to pay full price for but i feel somewhat vindicated in that it was full price to a small cult developer and that it's a game i'm sure to replay 3 or 4 times.

Plus the story was hilarious, it was like a Tarantino movie + Cowboy Bebop + wacky shit to keep you off guard.

and of course Ubishop still has this game on backorder, it's shipments have pretty much sold through and it cant do any more than that.

Here's hoping Ubisoft gets it's next shipments correct and we start reading Web stories in the next few weeks from Suda51 bloke saying "I was wrong"
