By a "while" you mean this generation. They are recovering though. But yes the industry shifted focus this gen to big american blockbusters. I like some, but i hate the focus on Shooters.

Yeah, I mean the 7th gen, but it's been 7 years and it's not over completely yet, so a 'while' indeed.

I'm with you there, I'm also tired of shooters..I mean, I can still put up with a TPS game, but I can't stand FPS games anymore.

i used to have a very negative view of sony for years, but they have grown on me and now i cant get enough. they have made the right moves and changes in my opinions, i still want kevin butler back on commercials!!!

Aside the fact they let PS Vita die, they are a company with solid IP. They crave a little for the luxury market, and often sell overpriced stuff, but overall it is a reliable company. (shareholders may have a different opinion though)

They're crazy and out-of-touch, but they give me everything I want when it comes to gaming, both variety and quality.

I'm amazed how they can get so much right and so much wrong at the same time.

No, it's their entire gaming branch

You're probably thinking of SOE

Nah, thats SCEE. SCEA is SCE America. SCEJ is SCE Japan. All together, they come under the SCE WW Studios name, just SCE is easier to put down

Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) did EverQuest, DC Universe Online and the such.

SCE has been all over the map.

PROS:

-Established a deep stable of developers
-Bolstered their roster of IP's
-Built PlayStation Network into a strong market competitor
-PlayStation Plus
-New hardware approach on PS Vita and PS4, making the best device for the development community

CONS:

-PS3 hardware (without the dominate lead of PS1/2 unique HW was a major issue)
-PSP missed the bus on the mobile market and let apple take a major grip
-Major fail launching Vita without a phone capable model
-No unified experience across devices
-Experience across Home, PS Store, and PSN is very cumbersome

The Future

Things are looking much better right now for SCE. They have made major improvements with the PS Vita, and PS4 hardware. The move to industry standards, and the communication with developers is a god send for game development. Unity, Connectivity, and Communication are the focus going forward, and things between PS4 and Vita are already looking very nice. PS4's multitasking ability is a major step forward in the battle of keeping the console always on, and viable beyond gaming.

On the Software side things are looking much stronger going into this gen than last. Last gen SCEWWS was just a new born, now it is much more mature, and even the limited PS4 lineup already shows a much better situation than pre launch PS3. Devs that supported Sony with PS1/2 seem to be back to their happy place. Devs that made major gripe about PS3 are singing praise for PS4, and ready to put their work on the machine.

At this point they seem to be in a strong position, and the pressure is in the other corners.



Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.
