Well this year alone it will reach over 83 million. Then the price gets slashed down to $150 and eventually less. Let's say by 2015 a PS3 is $129.99, and it's selling like crack on emerging markets and developing countries. PS2 sold over 50 million after the PS3 launched. PS3 will continue to sell for many more years, by the end of 2015 it'll have eclipsed the Wii's total. Cheer up though, X360 may get out of last place if it can manage around 105 million, climb back to 2nd place that is.

What lolz could you possibly have?  Your favorite console with a year lead and stealing just about every third party title worth a damn with absolutely no monetary restraints can't outsell a company virtually on the verge of bankruptcy with a horrible  pricing plan and late release.  

The only lolz to be had, are the ones that this is even a realistic possibility today.  Give the PS Fanboys crap all you want...they were right.

Will the price even drop that far? The ps3 entry price point was ridiculous. Are BluRay players even $99 yet? Not to mention TeH CeLL. It helped the ps2 and the 360. $149.99 is the absolute lowest I think it will go and that could be years away. If it does hit 83 million by the end of the year, the Wii still can get to 105 million. 22 million with everything like ps3 price, ps4, wii still getting sales, WiiU, neXbox and eventual loss of support because of the ps4... It could be done but I doubt it will happen.

All prices come down. You'll see. Sony is manufacturing PS3s in Brazil now, and it's yet to officially launch in China...imagine that.

What lolz? The ps3 will be lucky to hit 100 million. How could they be right when the numbers show it hasn't even passed the 360 yet and they already speak of passing the Wii? They're excited, I understand that because they have reason too but at least get within 10 million of the Wii.... Especially when this gen will soon be over. I'll re-post this table, again.

It took PS3 an entire generation to potentially pass X360.
PS3 is being replaced THIS holiday.
PS3 has YOY major declines in sales even without the PS4 on the market.
PS3 has been a largely costly hardware for Sony.
PS3 will be retired in 2016 at the latest. (maybe 2015)

Now let's compare Wii.

Seriously though, you do realise once the PS4/Nextbox is out sales will literally tank, we have 1 good holiday/xmas sales period left at best. After that it's just going to be scraps. The PS3 is not the PS2, at least that's how it looks as of now.

Things could change, top games could continue to be released after holidays/xmas but that is not likely at all.

22 million more is a massive amount to sell when this time next year the new consoles will be taking most shelf space and publisher attention going forward.

In fact I would say that the only way the PS3 could do 22 million more is if the PS4 fails!!! (I don't think that is likely).

I thought about the secondary markets, or tertiary or whatever they're called but...do we really know that Sony is going to start selling in them. China is really the only one worth talking about that's a big question mark as to success there.

PS3 is still at about $200, it will first get a major price cut to $150 or even $99 eventually before being discontinued. Also it will still receive major multi-platform releases for years to come, escpecially the major sport titles.
