there is no "Wii U" console category...

Huh?

As in the OP:

http://direct.asda.com/Games-Consoles-Bundles/370200,default,sc.html?cm_mmc=internal-asdacom-dsk-_-ad-_-hp-_-nav-ents-consoles&utm_source=asdacom-dsk&utm_medium=internal&utm_term=nav-ents-consoles&utm_content=ad-hp&utm_campaign=internal

Why isn't the Wii U there??

Couldn't tell you. But if you mouse over the Music, Video, Games and Books tab, you still see a Wii U section.

My question is, was there ever a Wii U section on the left side to begin with?

A few accessories and games, but no consoles.

Good point; times like this I wished my memory wasn't as sketchy...

But as the user above points out, there isn't a console section...All very odd.

Well, I can say with almost 100% certainty that it is not removal of Wii U from sale. That simply wouldn't even make any sense given that the Wii U sells about 10x as much as the DS in the UK yet they are still selling DS's.

Unless they lost distribution rights which would be very odd.

ASDA are a supermarket basically with an online electronics/extra setup, hardly a big player for the stuff excluding groceries.

This is likely just bad management and stock issues.

This all really came about from HMV dropping the price, then ASDA followed shortly by Amazon/Base.

People can read into it what they like but there's no conclusive evidence to show that the Wii-U has been permanently de-listed. Any comment is just conjecture and guesswork - at best!

Nobody knows anything and there's not enough to info to make an intelligent argument either way, since status quo is that it hasn't been de-listed, it would be sensible to assume that is the truth for now, surely.

Unless someone knows better?

Stock comes and goes, be sure to check 'stock' during holiday 2013 thank you

So it was a stock clearance scheme as we had imagined.

Disappointing but no major surprise here sadly. Perhaps more stock will roll in after the summer.

That's not true.

It was just a promotion that a few retailers matched. If it was a stock clearing scheme other retailers wouldn't have bothered matching. There may be no stock now (haven't checked) but that doesn't indicate stock clearing - of course it could be - but it's just anecdotal.

Retail price matches in UK all the time, they don't like people going to other shops because if they go elsewhere once, they wil go again for other things.  So they price match to keep customers shopping with them.

Not sure if directed at me, but I'm not disagreeing with any of that at all. It's exactly how it works...

1. Price reduced -> Amazon matches -> Supermarkets match ...or swap.

I really don't think Wii-U will die out that quickly, not with Nintendo's software support. The question is could there be enough damage done by the time that software arrives for some retailers to be reluctant to sell it.

Nevertheless they still had the leading price for the Wii U in the UK for a period of time. Considering the ease of ordering something online nowadays, if I order anything I will give the supermarkets a quick look at.

Well yes it is guesswork, but not having the Wii U in a bundle category or even a dedicated Wii U console category is rather odd to say the least - usually a site would, and should, have a "notify when back in stock" button. Really, there is nothing at all normal about what is going on with regard to the Wii U console listing on the site, hence the speculation. Considering the Wii U's in my local Sainsbury's are literally gathering dust, I would say that demand seems to be rather limited.

Agreed.

All will be revealed in time I suppose.
