I think the US market is basically going to be all about the PS4 vs 720 in the next five years with a side market of 3DS which is about 1/2 or 1/3 or what the DS used to do here.
Wii U and Vita will be irrelevant.
And even PS4/720 I think will be slow burn products with slow starts after the early adopters get theirs.

No 15-30 year old consumer wants a Vita when they all have smartphones aside from a very, very small (but vocal) group of hardcore gamers that probably end up buying every game hardware. And Nintendo is getting whatever kids still want a game handheld and even Nintendo is hurting on the handheld side in the West. 3DS is unable to build any real year over year momenteum whereas the DS was starting to explode in the US at this stage in its life cycle. |
the problem isnt that. tell me what games have come out for the vita in 2013? are smartphones hurting handheld sales? certainly, but there is still a market, albiet a smaller one, for handhelds. yet sony's effort in 2013 is horrible

Wait, what?! *Checks the current VGChartz weekly numbers*
I didn't even notice that the PSP numbers were adjusted in Europe! o.O

The 3DS has tons of games and is still selling poorly. Sony doesn't even have a chance.
No one wants $40 handheld games and $170-$250 pieces of handheld software.
Smartphones and tablets have brought this market to its knees. I *never* have seen anyone over the age of 14 carrying around a 3DS or Vita in public anywhere, and I see literally hundreds and hundreds of tablets/phones in use for gaming at airports and the like when I travel.
Both the vita and the wiiu are dead!!!
At least I tried Nintendo, I bought a WiiU in April :(
Holy shit at the Wii U!
Even worse than the negative record in January :(
Vita is mind bogglingly bad. When did the Dreamcast first dip under 20k for a month in North America?
Is the Vita quite possibly the worst selling hardware platform from the big companies (Nintendo/Sony/MS/Sega) since the Virtual Boy over here?

A big drop from March to April is pretty normal.
Fun fact, best case scenario 460k hardware was sold (not counting DS and PSP) this month.
April
2007: DS 471k
2008: Wii 714k
2009: DS 1040k
2010: DS 441k
2011: DS 357k

The 8th generation will probably be known for its big market contraction.
