I think even you will admit, this is a bit shocking.

It's not really shocking, we've known this for a long time due to the numbers Nintendo releases every quarter. Personally, I was just waiting for this to happen. Finally numbers are somewhat realistic.

that era in gaming will probably never be reproduced again nintendo being on top and sony and msf fans being very hostile towards each other

it also wont be the same on here that era (07-09) brought out alot of unique posters (some that will never be heard from again) and sales debate threads

even though ps3 wins in most sales as many knew back in 07, 360 really won the war it took over NA and parts of EU as well as grown globally

I doubt there's much chance of that coming to an end any time soon. It'll end when one of them leaves console gaming, and even then, like the Sega fan hate of Sony, it won't truly end.

So will this thread be the party thread, or will there be a new thread created for the party?

LOL So true. I think its one of those coming of age points because Sony has definitely worked harder and spent more money being gamer focused than Microsoft. They definitely deserve it. I dont think I would've lost sleep if they ended in third though, but analysts expected the PS3 to beat the 360 in 2011. They were right until Microsoft launched the Kinect.

All I can say is that because this generation lasted so long, I manged to buy all the consoles (Wii, 360, PS3, PSP, DS), and I can say that it's a great time to be a gamer.

Who needs next gen, we still have a good dozen great 7th gen games coming out, and GT6 was just announed. Plus I have a good 30 console and 30 handheld games to work on now. At my rate that's at least 3 years of gaming, and I'll likely get a Wii U and 3DS in that time. When I'm bored with that, PS4 will have a remake, and on it goes.

I agree with everything you said, and this is probably why Sony has decided not to make the PS4 BC. Still, lots to play, I'll never get to my PS1/PS2/DC backlog! Always got something at least

Plus the more we wait, the cheaper systems/games become. I'm really interested in the exclusives announced for Wii U (see sig), but I'm not willing to spend $60 a game, plus $350 for a system for them. So if others are like me, we will see 8th gen systems have a slow start, and Wii U is having one of the slowest so far.

well done ps3! i am shocked how well the xbox did regardless of having no japanese support.

but the ps3 sales have been steady and good for some time now, 85 million is very likely.

PS1-backlog?! Oh my... :) To me it's not an issue with money but with time! And perhaps it's better to wait for buying nextgen-consoles too early as we have seen this gen that the initial hardware-revision may lead to a broken game-device :)

Congrats to Sony for the big PS3 comeback. I don't know exactly how happy I'd be about this gen as a whole, but they've definitely done the best they could for their system the last several years.

Personally though I'm just hyped for new consoles right now, how well (or poorly, depending on how you wanna look at it) these current gen systems are doing doesn't really concern me at this point. In with the new and all that
