Lots of fighters use that because they use arcade sticks. But Smash has analogue movement so I would expect analogue controls to carry a distinct advantage over digital. Besides that, the sticks seem more efficient to me.

Of course people are free to use d-pad controls if they prefer those. But I don't think players who prefer analogue sticks in previous Smash games should be afraid of the slide pad. It's going to work great for Smash Bros.

Kid Icarus Uprising is not a sidescroller by default, but you can absolutely turn the camera to that perspective and use left/right to see how Smash might work.

Don't think so.. the first one, onsterMonpiece i think didn't got charted to much time before and did decent sells. It reached arround 100k (digital included according to ideaFactory) wich is a millestone in sells for low budget and niche games and genres...

SAO is doing so well!!!  Yesterday Vita could´nt stop with happy suprise and SAO continue the Party :D.   So here is my 5 reason I believe SAO ps vita "could"(yeah I still hope) sell Better than the PSP version.

1-) Additional story: Well I have played all the naruto game on Ps3 but never finished the story mode because I was´nt excited by the same story. New stroy will definitly apeal those who love SAO.

2-)Improvement: Better graphics(not significant), new item ,new weapons, new customisation, new combo,new Bosses etc..

3-)Fan Base : 

Base on this we can definitly see the fan base switch in God Eater. and SAO is exclusif now(could also improve HW sales :D).

4-) Best Ps vita sales Performance so far in 2014:

We have already some vita games who have reached 100K FW this yaer:  SAO has the best performance so far, we can see it here in COMG!, and also in other online retailers(On Amazon the 2 versions reached the top 20 for a while now and one is on the top Bestseller 11 Days before release)

5-) PSP soon a dead device: So SAO was the bestseller game of psp in 2013 with just 135K FW.God eater Burst was 620K in japan and G.E.2 only 220K.

Conclusion: It is definitly possible. Go SAO!!

MK8 is gonna be massive for the Wii U.

Damn. Mario Kart 8 is such a monster! Its power compels you, guys!
