I'd say that both are true. It's likely to be low due to all of the platforms it's been on before. However, the game has never been on a Nintendo platform, so you'd expect a lot more than what the PS4 port did.

That's assuming that Switch owners who are Final Fantasy fans never played it on PS2, PS3, Vita, PS4 or Steam.

It's about the odds of double dipping. I own it on PS2, PS3, and PS4. The people who are targeted by these releases are people who missed it completely or big time fans of the series. Considering backlog culture, I wouldn't be surprised if people own it on PC/PS4 but buy it again on Switch to have it on a handheld.

I don't think there's a particularly large overlap between Switch owners and PS3/Vita/PS4 owners, let alone the tiny speck that is PC gaming in Japan.

I'd say 75k is the ceiling for the initial week of Days Gone, likely closer to 50k.

There's definitely some overlap. Final Fantasy has a very targeted market and that market is most likely to own a Playstation platform. It's about convincing those who haven't played a mainline FF in a while to give it a shot.

That's not really how it works. The majority of people who are interested in FFX/X2 Remaster would have gotten it on one of the 4 platforms it released on between Dec 2013-May 2016.

A late port of a late port of a late port of a remaster is not likely to sell much regardless of being the first time on an ecosystem.

Really cool and original insight, I wish I had noticed that.

I'm not sure if you're serious or mocking me lol

Maybe if FFXVI was known to come to Switch.

This is a port of a port of a remaster. It will sell accordingly.

This is the part people seem to ignore.  Final Fantasy hasn't had a new entry in ages or any entry past 6 on a Nintendo machine.  That's 25 years of doing nothing to build or maintain an audience there.  It's not like all the FF fans from the SNES days have stubbornly dug in their heels and ignored the franchise for more than two decades, persistently buying only machines that never see an entry.

And the same goes for other franchises and publishers that have ignored Nintendo platforms for extended periods, it will take time to fully establish an audience there.

That's only if you just count the mainline titles.

Starting Gamecube, Nintendo got the FF Chrystal Chronicles series instead, with 2 games and a couple spinoffs, and let's not forget FF Tactics Advance/A2

I do only count those because both CC and Tactics were shortlived and neither had anywhere near the staying power or pull of the mainline entries.  Combined they maybe held on to a fraction of the growing fanbase for a brief time.  A negligible impact in the grand scheme of things

Rune Factory 4 gets his daily point, but not much else happens.

It will be interesting to see what will happen on COMG and Media Create Famitsu with the extended Goldenweek this year

Wow, COMG briefly flirted with the edge of a new record on lowest preorder points there. I wonder if we'll see a new low in 9 days. Keep in mind that in 2 days, 3 unseen 5 or lower point games will leave, the other editions of Langrisser. Add the 5 games in 9 days, and another one a day later, and thats 10 new games in 10 days. How low can we go? As expected, the weekly sales charts can't beat the low point record, because that record is 2 points, and there's no way we see 1 point games in the weekly. We might match that record soon though, since we're already seeing 3 point games.

Nintendo slowly creeping up on Sony in points and edging them out on ratio, not that it'll matter in 9 days when they lose SAO.
