Mario is flopping compared to past games on COMG, you're right there.
One thing in its favour though is that you would assume there will be lots of people who buy a Wii U once the game comes out to play it. Obviously they're not going to preorder until they own the system.

Well NSMBU was at 156 points nine days before anyone in Japan had bought a Wii U.  Granted, the people buying a system at launch are different from those buying one at the launch of a big game, but clearly people are willing to preorder before they have a system.

Of course they matter. If it had 100+ points right now we'd know it would be a huge help to the WiiU. As of right now, it looks like it won't be the big help many people were hoping it'd be. And if that happens, people will say Mario Kart will be the game to turn WiiU's fortunes.

Not necessarily, 100points doesn't always mean 100k (or at least close to it), back we saw a game like SS on vita with low points but ended up being high right? Wii Party U had low points here and ended up doing ok. Cant think of others, all imsaying is this is just one store  and doesn't seem like too many pre  orders come from here on WiiU.

We are discussing mario here. The same game, at 100 points or more. You have to agree that it being lower than pikmin is a letdown


Not really, look at pokemon for example. I'll wait for numbers on media create, wiiu titles are weird here imo! Vita games perform better as well. Maybe its install base?

I think the difference there is that the people who preordered NSMBU would have had a Wii U on preorder as well.

MK doesn't have an annual release like Mario does nowadays :P MK and SSBB are much bigger than 3D Mario in Japan (and even WW) so they'll have a bigger impact on the Wii U definitely. Still think Mario will pull some decent numbers, it does look like a good game. Also Holidays will help it sell, but up to now it's very very disappointing. Let's not forget though that Wii Pary U barely charted and pulled in 70k+ FW.

Also even though the low Wii U hardware numbers does indeed influnce sales, it's still not an excuse for MArio. I just hope it explodes this weekend.
