I think that between both the PS4 and XBO versions, that USA numbers should be amazing, if not, pick up the slack for Japan's numbers.
But we also thought this game would sell and do better than XIII at one point, and look how that turned out...

We did?

Dammit Boutros, the one time I bet money on you drinking, you don't drink.

Should Square Enix start thinking about hitting the panic button?
I mean for a mainline Final Fantasy game, these pre order numbers must be all time lows since the SNES days!

The situation looks quite underwhelming indeed.

As I think about FF, what is the "reason" for World of Final Fantasys underperformance at comg it´s just 2,5 months away from launch, is it maybe too Japanese, in contrast to FF15 beeing too western in design? Just to be clear, actually and personally I disagree with the notion that FF15 is too western.

If it does well in the world minus Japan it's definitely the last new final fantasy we'll get focused for the japanese.

The best they'll get is the likes of FF7 remastered which in fairness will allow SE to still get the japanese fans lining their pockets.

But if it under performs in the west or at least stays the same then SE will seriously consider going more old school again.  A lot is on the line.

You may not have been there, Boutros, but I remember being in a Splatoon vs FFXV thread about which game would end up selling more in Japan, and the general consensous was that XV would do around the same if not better than XIII

Edit: Plus there was a point, as evidenced by the comparsions with the XIII trilogy that at some point here, XV started out with much higher opening preorders than XIII, problem was that we were expecting that huge bump, that FF BOOST to happen eventually... and we're still waiting... to the point where some of us are thinking it won't happen.

The "too western" notion can't be the reason the Japanese are giving this game the cold shoulder, they can't be THAT bias or shy towards Western styled games, especially given how this is one of the biggest video game franchises in the entire world we're talking about, one where Japan is its most popular region!
Perhaps they hated the XIII trilogy THAT much?
Or maybe the console market over there is doing even worse than we thought?
I don't know, but it is the oddest case of the year thus far.

Yep! It was the same with Pokken and Yokai Watch 3. It came early with high points but then..........
