Your KanColle Example is bad, Its more like ORAS or Soul Sacrifice Special Edition which each being sold as 2 copies (ORAS= 1copy for OR and 1copy for AS while SS was 2copies for the Double Pack).

Both Media Create & Famitsu counted the Soul Sacrifice double pack as 1 sale per double pack sold (i.e. numbers weren't doubled because there were two copies as part of the package).

Pokemon games (and Youkai Watch games) are literally sold as two different titles, that you can pick up separately on shelves.

So those are two completely different examples.  Fire Emblem Special Edition is the first one, not the second one; but the individual editions are the second one, rather than the first one.

Are you sure about that? I don't remember how the Soul Sacrifice double pack worked, but Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire double pack counted two copies:

Famitsu:

01./00. [3DS] Pokemon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire # (Pokemon Co.) {2014.11.21} (¥4.937) - 1.534.593 / NEW <60-80%>

Media Create (two skues)

01./00. [3DS] Pokemon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire (Pokemon Co.) {2014.11.21} (¥4.937) - 1.327.671 / NEW

02./00. [3DS] Pokemon Omega Ruby/Pokemon Alpha Sapphire: Dual Pack (Pokemon Co.) {2014.11.21} (¥9.874) - 90.497 / NEW

Media Create's comment:

“Pokémon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire” sold 1.509 million copies mainly to returning users

・ Due to the release of popular title “Pokémon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire,” total software sales amounted to 1,854,058 copies (290.87% of last week).
They didn’t reach, however, the weekly sales in the second week of October (total software sales: 1,854,220 copies) when “Monster Hunter 4G” was released, placing the second largest weekly sales in this year.

・ Top-ranked “Pokémon Alpha Sapphire” (714 thousand copies) and second-ranked “Pokémon Omega Ruby” (614 thousand copies) sold 1.328 million copies in total.
If we include “Pokémon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire Double Pack” as 2 copies per 1 unit, they were 1.509 million copies.
The latest installment was a remake of “Pokémon Ruby/ Sapphire” released in November 2002, and they didn’t reach initial weekly sales of 1.867 million copies of “X” (961 thousand copies) and “Y” (906 thousand copies) released in October 2013.
But, they were almost the same as total sales of 1.443 million copies of past remake title “Soul Silver” (723 thousand copies) and “Heart Gold” (720 thousand copies), although a single comparison is impossible because an estimating period in the latest installment in the first week is a day longer.

・ According to our data about purchasers, as for age of purchasers of “Alpha Sapphire” in initial week, the highest was around twenties, so it seems that it was purchased mainly by the returning users who had played its previous installment, “Ruby/ Sapphire”.
Meanwhile, the proportion of 15 and under was significantly lower than that of “X” and “Soul Silver,” so it is noteworthy whether they will attract young users in the end of the year selling season, when the demand for a gift will go up.

Frankly, I do hope MC and Famitsu tracks FE if versions separately. The games are different enough, and i want to know their individual sales and split.

Actually, yeah, scrap what I said.  Fire Emblem is two separate games like Pokemon/Youkai is; Soul Sacrifice was literally just two separate copies of the same game.  Would make more sense for those to be counted as two than SS was.

Though I do think it's weird what Media Create did with Pokemon ORAS.  They counted the two separate SKU's as one thing, they counted the double pack as a separate thing but each sale was actally two sales?  Bizarre.

The whole thng is bizarre lol! Thats why i was telling Out + Boutros this game is completely different from any other. I dont think wehad a game like this before, thats why opinions on its sales are all over the place.

Like i said before, it would be weird to count the special edition as 1 game instead of 2games (1 for each White/Black) while somebody else buys the retail version and downloads the other as DLC and that counts as a sale for each!

Want to be more amazed/confused? Whats going to happen when (if) FE is announced as 1 game in the west? How ar they suppose to combine it as WW Sales? We can leave this topic alone for a couple months but it still comes up with the interesting question that will be heavily argued...
