Well at least Pikmin is maintaining that momentum...here's hoping for a solid weekend!

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Pikmin is getting points? Hope it gets a boost. it has the whole of next week to get to 100 pts

Go Pikmin! Also, I am suprised that  Dead Island: Riptide is on this list.

I hope Nintendo can fix their Wii U problem. Vita is bad enough but 2 consoles not doing so well is not really positive reinforcement for the next gen.

Indeed. Especially when the system started out with crazy pre-orders and sellouts. But I think both have problems just particular to them.

A non-Nintendo dedicated handheld would've been a long shot if Sony did everything right, which they certainly didn't. Meanwhile, third-parties have pretty much abandoned the WiiU, and the flood of current gen ports (not even the full version in some cases) casts doubt on how interested they were in the first place. That forced Nintendo to pick up the slack in a way they clearly didn't expect to after the Wii's success.

I don't know if the PS4 will have either of those problems in Japan. It's main issue will be that the orbit of Japanese gaming in general seems to have shifted to dedicated handhelds and mobile. The 3DS has had the huge sellers over and over again since I started following these numbers, and only recently have PSP sales fallen off.

How the PS4 does will be super interesting. It could revitalize the console market for Japan, but before we can even consider that, Sony has to show a lot at TGS first.

I'm wondering what they'll have for the PS4 that will appeal to the Japanese market in the early days. The biggest exclusives coming at launch--Killzone, Driveclub, and Infamous--look very Western-oriented.

Which is why I said that Sony will have to show a lot at TGS. We know it'll have FF15, MGS5, and KH3, but there aren't really any other big series announced just yet. I imagine we'll hear about whatever Sony's Japanese studios are doing and the new Resident Evil at least.

Why people use MGS5 as an example? MGS4  sold 0.83 million in Japan . It sold almost double that in Europe.

I think console generally launch with no big game just some port, i think first weeks ps4 will sold well just because is a Playstation console.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

Do you realize how few games break 500k in one region, let alone 750k. That's a big franchise that will move consoles. It's not gigantic like Dragon Quest or Animal Crossing, but I don't see how you can consider not important...
