Forums - Nintendo - Wii U CPU + GPU clock speeds increased? Is it even possible?

Wait people are taking my post seriously?

It is about as credible as the numbers posted in this rumor though, I suppose...

Hey, 8,4 GHz are already achieved, but that's an absolute world record. And if someone really managed to get his hands on something better...

that CPU jump would seem to be too fucking big, going from 1.24 to 3.24 would increase heat generation by a fuck ton. Unless they purposely did it as a way to hide actual specs until close to PS4 and Nextbox launch times, which seems very unlikely.

the PSP got an increaseof 50% from 222 to 333. So considering this is a console, I guess the increase would represent the same %, but in numbers it would be more obviously.

So I expect the WiiU CPU to be 1.86ghz or at most 2ghz IF this rumor has some truth in it.

I remember that being reported somewhere. I forgot how long it lasted at that setting, but if I remember correctly the chip burned out eventually.

The rumored new speed for the CPU is unbelievable. Really. No one can believe that they almost tripled its speed with no serious consequences.

But a more modest increase could be possible. Heck, Nintendo said that the WiiU was designed to use about 45W when playing yet when it was launched and the media tryed it, they recorded a consumption of "only" 35W.

As farfetched as this seems, did anybody also ever wonder why it was ever so low in the first place?

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

IF, and its a big IF, they did this all intentionally just to mess with Sony and Microsoft and truly have people not know the true specs of the already released consoles, it was absolutely genius.

If it was underclocked, and if the 35/45w thing was caused by this, it wouldn't be more than 1.6ghz, which would put the clock speed about where the chips for the PS4/Xbox are rumored to be about.

But that is a lot of ifs.

And reply to the above:

I doubt Nintendo did this to mess with the other companies. Their objective as stated was to balence power and power consumption. And if they down clocked it then decided to upclock it was only to help them with the loading problems, not to make their system seem better. They have never stated the specs to begin with so there is no advantage to change it for "street cred" if there isn't an offical starting point to brag about.

I certainly wondered that.  It's part of what lends some credence to the rumor.  I don't think major "overclocking" is likely or possible, but the system may have been significantly underclocked at launch.

Yeah, 1.24GHz always struck me as strangely low, even for a system that prioritises coolness, quietness, and small size.

It is possible with firmware updates if the hardware was made to allow this change in the base clock.

But 1.24Ghz to 3.24Ghz is impossible for the CPU... same form the GPU from 500Mhz to 800Mhz.

Nintendo will need a hole new thermal system to reach these clock if the CPU/GPU can reach them.

So FAKE.
