A theory in science isn't the same as a theory in common day to day life. A theory in science has to be rigorously tested to the point of being considered fact. The only thing higher in scientific terms are laws (e.g. the laws of thermodynamics).

The bolded is simply wrong. You need to relook at your own definition of fact. Just because you put fact before a sentence doesn't make it so.

http://listverse.com/2011/11/19/8-examples-of-evolution-in-action/

1. Boss man, a theory is only a theory because it cannot be proven, or else it would be fact. The fact that you stick the word “scientific” or any form thereof onto a theory doesn’t make it fact to anyone other than you and your monkey-like friends. FACT, evolution CANNOT be proven thus it remains just theory, whether scientific, religious, or otherwise. You then chose to accept it or not.

2. You people ask religious believers to produce evidence of the creator, but when we ask you to provide the same standard of proof for much less, e.g. about evolution, and you can’t. I don't give a rat's ass what you and you're scientific friends believe in anymore tthan you believe in what me and other religious people believe in. We're talking about FACT here, not what other people like you belive. The only thing you can produce is what is acceptable to other people like yourselves.

3. So you’re trying to tell me human reproduction (as oppose to evolution) is not a FACT?

4. By the way, that ‘source’ or ‘examples’ of evolution you posted is laughable. Now here is point where I usually get banned, but I will resist the urge to say what I really want to. Anyways, those example of ‘evolution’ are junk. They are nothing more than e.g. a man moving from a hot climate to a cold climate  and once getting there, almost freezing to death his first winter before slowly adapting to the climate over the years of him being in the cold. He does not evolve pal, he just adapts to his surroundings. That’s totally different thing from saying that he grew fur and is now a new species, different than scratching his butt all day and picking flees to being a scientist....wait o_ 0

5. In any event, the FACT remains, you CANNOT prove that humans EVOLVED from anything other than what is human. So keep sticking your ‘testers’ up the buttholes of those little frogies and butterflies, maybe, just maybe, oneday, someday, you will produce one of those monkey-like creatures. Then you can roger him till he turns to a human - good luck with that.  Until then I'll keep believeing that Humans come from Humans, Birds come from Birds, and Scientist come from monkey-like creatures.

1. I explained this in the last post. If you choose to ignore the information I give, that's your perogative.

2. I've stopped asking religious people for evidence because for the most part they can't. Scientists.... actually, not only scientists, general people with a greater level of knowledge and understanding of basic biology, present you with evidence, it's your choice to ignore it.

3. Did I say human reproduction is not fact? No, you're just assuming I did when I pointed out evolution was a fact and making yourself look a bit silly. In fact, the science you hold in such disdain can actually describe the process of reproduction from genetics to epigenetic effects (also a part of evolution) during embryonic development to the birth of the baby. Using these techniques we can even warn the parents if the baby has a genetic disease that they need to be aware of.

4. No, your understanding is quite limited if you think the examples given are of a single individual. Try a family of individuals moving from a hot to cold climate and surviving in extreme conditions. Over numerous generations the great-great-great-great grandchildren have paler skin as they don't need as much protection from the sun, have larger fat reserves for greater insulation etc.

Actually, even individual adaptation is a part of evolution as we can track how an individuals physical adpatation can make changes on a chemical level (to your DNA) and how these can be inherited from parent to child (epigenetics).

5. Studies of DNA sequences and genomes from a range of different species say otherwise. But if it's difficult to grasp, maybe this picture will help explain it:

Maybe look at different breeds of dogs as an example. Try breeding a Japanese Akita with a Jack Russell... might be a bit difficult. Yet they both originate from the same Wolf-based ancestor. That's arguably speciation through evolution right there (as described in the picture above).

To be fair, a Jack Russel, Akita and a wolf are fairly more similar when compared to humans and apes, as they can reproduce because they're genetically similar.  If we and apes are just as relatable in make up to those dogs, we would be able to create a man/gorillia hybrd.  Just like how Lions and Tigers, Zebras and Horse can breed, because they're all genetically similar.

I don't doubt that we humans might have evolved from something, but there just isn't enough indisbutable info about it to concived me.  If humans did evolve, I think we must of came from a breed long extinct, and nothing that exists in this time period.

Religion truly is the opiate of the masses, and under its influence humans are capable of acts, thoughts, and deeds that they would otherwise not be capable of. That is where this thread is going, and while all of that may be true. It isn't really the heart of the matter. Religion foments divisions between people and peoples, and it is in those schisms between individuals and groups where evil festers.

Religion is the foundation from which racism, nationalism, feudalism, sexism, and slavery spring. It separates one group from another, and diminishes the respect of one individual for another. It doesn't just make it easier to justify bad acts against another. That is the natural byproduct of this way of thinking. Let us be clear about something religion in all its many forms is a way of thinking.

Religion isn't in itself bad, but it is bad in certain contexts. Ten thousand years ago religious thinking probably gave our ancestors a survival advantage, because it strengthened the group by giving it common purpose, and creating certain ways of behaving towards one another that minimized conflict, or allowed it to happen in a controlled form. However that was then, and this is now.

Religion puts up walls, and while those walls once helped us to keep our enemies at bay. Those walls have become our true enemy. The future of our species is becoming increasingly dependent on pluralism. A group of people who are sitting behind a wall going insane isn't self contained anymore. It doesn't really matter if it is just one group, and the other groups are pacifists. That one group can do damage on a global scale.

Religion by its very nature no matter what the adherent believes is a corrupting force. That actually does more harm now then it does good. If you doubt this at all. Look at the global trends. Nations where pluralism, non religiosity, and secularism are in the ascent. Very much dominate the Nations where that is not the case, and it isn't just in the form of militarism we are talking about.

Those nations having fewer boundaries between their citizens. Are able to work together to far greater effect. This is an evolution. Anywhere that religious thinking has started to wane. There has been a boon in the human capacity for creation. Everything goes right through the roof. Science, the humanities, civil engineering, and philanthropy. It is because religion is actually detrimental, and is that not a textbook definition of something that is evil.

Something that expressly harms the group. You can have any religion of any color you like, and have it lead by who ever you want, but it doesn't change the defining characteristics about religious thinking. It doesn't promote the exchange of ideas, or the creation of new ideas. Which are what drive progress.

Sir, while I respect your perspective in your post, I feel as though I should state a few things to hopefully change your opinion on the matter in someways.

Firstly, I don't see how Religion is the sole reason why people do bad acts, considering lots of non-religious sects condone lots of evil doing, without a care in the world.   Also, if it wasn't for Religion I don't think there would be any reason for any one to care about their wrong actions and the concept of morals would be completely askewed.  People could do as much harm as possible to each other and not care about it, because it isn't wrong to them, they won't get punished and it makes their life easier, so why wouldn't they do it.  Generally speaking, most religions, Huddism, Buddism, Christianity, Islam and Judasim generally teach people of understanding each other and moral basis and generally accept plurism.  It's a way of thinking, but it doesn't usually  govern everything a person should do.

When you said "Religion is the foundation from which racism, nationalism, feudalism, sexism, and slavery spring." I don't see how this is true.  It's just a common way of thinking.   And if anything most Religions address these problems.  You're getting people's ancient way of thinking confused with Religion as a whole.  These people just used Religion for a reason to condone all the bad things they've done or they chose to follow their Religion the way they see fit.

Of course some Religions can be cortupt, but it's unfair to judge them all based on a few ancient/unpopular religions, or by people who chose to follow it the way they want to follow it.

"but it doesn't change the defining characteristics about religious thinking. It doesn't promote the exchange of ideas, or the creation of new ideas. Which are what drive progress."   Lastly, I feel as though I need to correct you on this.  I don't see how being a Muslim or a Christian limits are ability to progressively make new ideas.  Look at America, a place that is both religious and free how it's pushed the world forward in so many ways in the past century.  I don't think them believing that Jesus is their savior limited their progress one bit.    Also think back at the Arab people, and how they've made so many discoveries in science and other fields.   I don't their belief in Allah interfered with that either.

And honestly, speaking you can't blame Religion on all the ills the world has.    Man has a tendency to do wrong and some people just try to use their Religion for a reason to justify the wrong they've done.  That is the only difference.  Religion, while capable of making people do terrible things, does not do more harm than good.  If someone makes up an deity, that could make us all behave better to each other and inspire us to do great things and give us a moral compass to follow, isn't that something that could never go stale?

And to the OP, if you believe in God and Satan, than isn't it Satan that does the corrupting to the Religion and us? :P

I know, but it's an easy example to use because the divergence is quite recent. Humans don't have an equivalent in the same way wolves and domestic dogs are related (or the way lions and tigers give ligers... cool creatures). All other species in the Homo genus died out (or potentially inter-bred to help shape us now); Homo sapiens are the last survivors, which is quite extraordinary when you think about it. What's scary is that our relative lack of genetic diversity and studies into mitochondrial DNA suggest we were close to extinction at one point too.

The idea that someone can have this much disdain for scientists and the scientific endeavor while posting from his computer on an internet forum is just mind boggling to me.

lol, disdain? I love my computer and my WiiU, etc, oh and Beakman's World, so I'm not sure what you're on about. In any event, I'm sure I've got more love for scienece that most people in here have for religion. I just show as much resect in here for science they do for religion. Why don't you go around asking people in here not to have "disdain" for religion - how about that?

Not something I care about.  If people break rules I'll act on it but I'm not going to go around defending something I don't care about.

Not a moderation anyway, you're perfectly free to continue thinking that all scientists are porking butterflies to experiment with evolution, and I'm free to think it's crazy to to say like that while surrounded by things that are only possible because of that same scientific method that you seem to misunderstand.

fact

/fakt/
Noun
  1. A thing that is indisputably the case.

When you use terms such as "like" or "may be" that proves you only basing you arguments on a theory. You want to believe you that LIKELY evolved from what MIGHT have been a monkey, then you go right ahead. Just don't go around presenting it like its some FACT.

Fact, humans nor any creature on earth evolves, they reproduce. They fuck and make more, FACT. Can you prove Evolution?

I thought about monkey-like friends/brain and realized it actually isn't an insult at all due to evolution. It is not a false statement.

Couple things you're still clueless about.

Humans ARE primates. Do you realize this?

http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/476264/primate

Of course we evolved. There aren't even any competing scientific theories to evolution - that's how convinced the scientific community is of its merit.

I suppose all these fossils of early hominids are all bullshit, eh?

Lol. It's just sad that you aren't aware of these things.

scientific theory -  systematic ideational structure of broad scope, conceived by the human imagination, that encompasses a family of empirical (experiential) laws regarding regularities existing in objects and events, both observed and posited. A scientific theory is a structure suggested by these laws and is devised to explain them in a scientifically rational manner.

That should resolve your petty dispute of the term theory.

Pal, for a seemingly smart dude you really seem really blinded, and we’re already established that you’re one-side, so I should be surprised. I mean can you not see the flaws in your arguments, by simply looking at the definition you posted, which exists in bubble. That definition means nothing to anyone that is not a scientific person – i.e. it is biased, subjective and one-sided, like your thinking.

Words like “conceived” “imagination” “devised” “scientifically” mean almost nothing in a factual context, and especially to religious people. It’s like scientists that “devised” years ago that the atom was the smallest particle, but years later found out it was not. Science is only based on what you can prod in the here and now, and what you can’t prod now is not fact but is in fact just theory.

Here is another word “assume” – which is a bit unscientific I know, but it fits in with your type of reasoning. For you can only assume evolution is fact, not matter how much you try to use words like “conceived” “imagination” “devised” “scientifically”, it still all boils down to an assumption, whether scientific or otherwise. What is not an assumption and is in no way just “conceived” “imagination” “devised” “scientifically” is human reproduction – Humans make Humans – Evolution doesn’t make Humans. For when a black man fucks a white woman, and a brown baby comes out, those subtle changes are not evolution. They are code that has been put there by a creator. People didn’t evolve into some white and some black, and some fat and some skinny and all the subtle little changes that make up the human race. So why do prod little butterflies for changes and when you find the same subtleties you think its evolution? It has all been coded into what makes us human.
