Forums - Sony - BEYOND: Two Souls special edition details: 30 mins extra gameplay!

Thanks to the many of you who watched the live feed last month of BEYOND: Two Souls at the Tribeca Film Festival. This was just a very small teaser of what we have to show in the months leading up to launch in October.

Today we can also confirm that the game will be available as both a Standard Edition and Special Edition, with the Special Edition available via pre-order only.

The Special Edition will of course include bonus content, most notably an additional 30 minute playable scene, details of which we’ll be revealing in the near future.

The full breakdown of what will be included on the Special Edition are as follows:

  • Exclusive steel book premium packaging
  • Additional playable scene (30 mins gameplay)
  • Behind the scenes videos
  • Game soundtrack
  • PS3 Dynamic Theme
  • PSN Avatar Bundle

This falls under the EA type of shenanigans.

Ya know "From Ashes DLC"... though, obviously I bought that game anyways, so everyone does this stuff now.

Yeah, because this would be the first game to do this, right?

OT: I may have to just order mine from EU. We won't get that here.

can't remember a game where you get more playtime for pre ordering, almost as bad as day one dlc for me personally. but i'm not effected by this, i don't like games which are heavy influenced by cinema.

How is this a shenanigan?

Offering more content to people who pre-order is called smart marketing. It encourages people to buy your game early, at full price, and non used, all of which is good for the developer.

Complaining about these kinds of deals seems ridiculous to me.

it's not preordering. That is a different issue.

It can be viewed that to get the full game on release day you have to pay more than the 60 dollars required because you have to buy the special edition. It does not say if the content will be available as dlc or whatever.

If you think Mass Effect 3, Rage etc, is an acceptable practice. Then that's a fine viewpoint to have.

To say this somehow differentiates from those instances which the gaming community constantly ridicules is obsurd though.

Wait, did I misunderstand this article? The way I read it was that the special edition would be a pre-order upgrade. They didn't mention a price for it.

That aside though, you're assuming that this extra 30 minutes is essential to the main story of the game. Who's to say that this isn't something extra, that simply adds to the experience? If they have time to create an awesome, complete game, and an additional scene for the special edition, what's wrong with that?

I guess you're of the opinion that anything made before release should be part of the retail package, and I have to disagree. Developers usually have a lot of down time towards the end of a project, and need to keep busy. Why not make extra content, which can then be ready by release?
