Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo / Intel to provide free tool to port iOS/Android apps to Wii U/3DS

I think the other main reasoning here is that Nintendo knows they're completely screwed with traditional third parties. Those companies aren't coming to help them with Wii U like they would have hoped, even the Japanese companies aren't really getting behind it (the Japanese release list looks worse than the US/Euro ones, which is an epic level of fail).

So they have to pursue other developers. Indie devs, Android/iOS, etc. Sony is doing something similar with the Vita because they're in the same predicament.

The only thing I would say to that is I think Nintendo should try to secure more indie exclusives. These games are cheap and there are plenty of indie devs that are desperate for funding, go find 10-12 promising projects and greenlight them I say. Having ports of iPhone games and indie after the fact is OK, but I don't know if people are going to buy another $250+ piece of hardware for that.

multi-touch replaced with buttons

Exactly true. It won't be that simple for all games, but it will do for most of them.

A bigger concern is that I doubt a magical conversion of native code to HTML5 will be as straightforward as these guys make it out to be.

Well, I guess their not having multitouch will kind of be an issue now.

I have an iPad with well over 100 games.  A lot of them don't need multi touch and almost all the ones that do is because of control.  I think the idea here is to help the developers "convert" their code to more easly run on Nintendo systems, but the games could still be changed to use the built in controls instead, like the iCade compatible games are.  Any touch screen that has controls is kind of silly to also have multi touch.  I pretty much never use multi touch during game play on the Vita.

Stop hating and start playing.

Could be a good move to include a section in the eShop with apps, from iOS and Android. Only downside is neither the GamePad nor the 3DS has a multitouch-screen, so a lot of them would have to be gimped I think.

I've been thinking the exact opposite. With very little effort developers can switch the awful touchscreen controls that plague iOS and Android games and apps with the use of proper analog sticks and buttons. You should see Wii U games and apps being a better gameplay experience thanks to not NEEDING capacitive touchscreens to function.

Well, it's not a bad idea. Anything which means more gaming options is good, right?
