There are plenty of games and genres I don't like.
Difference is. I don't moan at fans of said games about how they are "sheep" or "ruining gaming" because that is childish.

I think the correct and obvious connection you grossly missed is that JRPGs and Platforms focus mostly on a robust and well-written story. Shooters have a tendency to have forgetable campaign cause the main drive is the multiplayer action and thus the campaign gamers are notoriously put off by the wash-away campaign and their characters. To each their own. However, games like my favorite shooter this gen, Spec Ops: The Line prove that any game, even shooters, can have deep and intricate stories and engaging characters and plot lines. |
Yeah. Save the princess and teenagers save the world from some villain. Robust and well written indeed.

Please take a peak at Japanese game charts... |
We are talking about games that we can play here not Japan, why would i count a market that i couldnt play? Sure if we got everyone of the Japanese games then we would be flooded with RPGs but we only get thrown a bone everynow in then (most of the games we get seem to be the worst of the bunch) but talking about the NA market we were flooded with shooters every year this gen (you know games that we could play and judge)
Anyways im not hating against shooters at all(theres quite a few i like) i just wish they would tone down on their releases because for every 1 action, platformer, wrpg, jrpg we get theres 5 shooters to come out with them.
there is a reason people complain about those 2 genres:shooters and eyetoy-wii-kinect games.
noone would care about them if they would not have an impact on all other genres by trying either to turn other genres into shooters(already destroyed resident evil, turned mass effect into a pseudorpg) or by using the money that was used to produce AAA exclusives for casual kinect games or destroying brands(like fable).Combined with more and more browser and mobile crap games it seems to be a real threat for many gamers who don't like this sort of games because
As result you have instead of diversity and innovation just more and more of the same but less and less innovation. Many people are satisfied with this but many also hate this situation.
But those people complaining about shooters usually don't complain about the genre:yes they hate the overhyped always the same cods, halos, killzone but they'll never complain about bioshock, half life or deus ex which don't use the primitive fps-stereotypes.but those games are rare while even horrible crap shooters like aliens CM are selling more than 500k in the first week.
there are also other successfull games like gta -fifa-madden etc: but they have almost no impact on other genres therefore people don't bash them like shooters or kinect.
but there is one genre that was even more dumped than shooters and kinect:
heavy rain:there was so much hate about this game though it has zero impact on other genres or the gaming industry as it is still pretty unique and noone is trying to copy it.
this game was criticized in a huge unfair way especially by the shooter-gamers who never played this game and never will, therefore I think the shooter genre just gets what it deserves.
I'm a little sorry for kinect/wii/eyetoy gamers as they usually are not interessted in bashing others, but i have no sympathy for the shooter genre as many shooter gamers are as ignorant and arrogant as those who hate this genre.

CoD wouldn't know character development if it bite them in the ass. Just about every possible adventure idea has been done by now games. It's the execution that makes it fantastic. Micheal bay explosions can only hold your attention for so long. Just go play mass effect or spec ops the line, that's how you do story telling in shooters.

Read that to yourself again.
So you think all Halos are the same uh... and you talk about people hating Heavy Rain. To me HR is just a demo tech to tell you the truth but that's just my opinion.
I think people with your mindset forgets that games are supposed to be easy to play and enjoy. If I want a really deep storyline while seating on my couch I'll pop up some Lord of the Rings, Bladerunner or Equilibrium.
I still play Tetris, Mario,Donkey Kong Country, Killer Instinct, MK3 and none of them are known for their storyline. They're known for pure fun and easiness to play.
I don't know, but I'm a bit sick of it, to be honest. Actually, more than just a bit, I'm very sick of it. It's so childish and annoying. "Waah, FPS games take no skill and are so uncreative, unlike my platformer game! I mean, you have to JUMP and stuff, and it's whimsical!"
Holy cats. Some people need to really get over themselves. Creativity has nothing to do with the gameplay mechanics.
Or the ever-popular "I don't like where the industry is going with FPS games". Oh dear, so sorry. It's not like other genres aren't being made. There aren't even that many FPS games, so dry your eyes and PLAY SOMETHING ELSE. The FPS percentage is no where close to the way videogames used to be dominated by beat'em ups or platformers.
I'll never understand why people like to whine about what other people play. It's just really lame.

Being overly sarcastic and pessimist is a hip thing now with people.
There was a thread created hating on GTA for not being linear and rich in storytelling. I mean they're getting out of hand...
