Forums - Gaming - Gamer elitists, why do these people dump on other genres and their fans, like shooters or kinect titles? Where does it come from? What do they gain?

Shooters are a dime a dozen and require no skill to play, and Kinect, does this really need an answer?

^This

Shooters oversaturated the market and casual gaming was a fad.

This was a silly thing to say at the beginning of this gen. It's an even sillier thing to say now.

Nice edit, but I was going to ask you to qualify that statement.

The Wii was enticing and brought casual gaming to its peak.

We won't see that this gen at all.

@Goat

Fun is subjective.

Popular stuff always attract hatred

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

don't know and i'm really happy that i like almost everything in gaming (as long as it's a good game in the specific genre)  and that i never have a problem when the industry starts to make a lot of games of any genre.

What takes skill to play? JRPG? RPG? etc... movie games that tell you what button to press to play?

I guarantee you that RPG's  are more of dime a dozen than FPS and they're more generic also.

There were alot more shooters released this gen then pure rpgs so your mistaken on that but for him to say shooters take no skill was also wrong. I dont think he has ever played online to even type something like that because playing online vs other live people takes lots of skill to win in my book.(some games less then others but still quite abit of skill to be able to win online)

i edited cuz I didn't want things getting inflammatory.

And if you think PS2 sold over 150 million because of just the core, then I don't know what to tell you.

The casual market has always been there. The DS and Wii were just the first systems to directly target them. It doesn't matter if they don't hit the same peak this gen as last gen.

The gaming industry has different markets , just like any other entertainment medium and unlike other mediums, it's still relatively young.

Shooters get bashed by those people who mostly play jrpg:s/platformers and such. They don't like a game which they have to compete against real people, since it reminds them of their childhood. Oh those nasty schoolyard games.

What I meant was this new casual group, the elderly and parents and such gaming, is gone. The casuals will always be around, but they won't comprise such a disproportionate amount of the market this time around.
