Forums - Gaming - Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection won’t come to Xbox 360 due to MGS4

Certainly not.

Removing languages takes one second (since it's mostly just one big file or folder containing all audio files that needs to be deleted).
Audio files are pretty much always compressed on 360. It wouldn't take "more" work, just as much as all other multiplat (and first party) developers put into their 360 games.
Also the whole process is not even real work since the computer is doing the work, it's just a bit time consuming.
Same for FMVs (though I don't even remember if they are any in MGS4).

The only "work" that would need to be done (apart from the usual porting stuff) is the rearrangement of the data on the discs.

The work is a lot bigger... they will have to translate all the code to 360 CPU instead the Cell, the GPU code is more easy even so they will have to port the game to run in the 360... that's not little work... at least six months.

Remember MGS4 was not developed to be multiplat... so all the code is exclusive to run on PS3... you have to make all the conversion to run it in other plataform.

And (now it is my opinion) the cost to do that is bigger than the sales that will be generated for this collection in 360.

Around the Network

I would like to know why its not coming to the Wii U to be honest. They could bundle the twin snakes and MGS4 with it cause it uses blu-ray. Whats the excuse there kojima? ^^

I agree. If they just announce MGS4 instead of the whole legacy version, it would generate more sales.

Sure that's why I said that splitting files or compress audio/video is not the "real" work that has to be done, compared to the porting itself.
No doubt it would take 6 months (though likely not with a full team).
About the profitability, the longer they wait the less sales they get from a potential 360 version. It's clear that the time for good sales on the console is already over. Should have come out a year or two later.

PS3 and 360 already saw a MGS HD collection with MGS2,3 and Peace Walker, so that would be even more work than a potential 360 version :P

360 is also missing the first MGS, which shouldn't be too much work to port though (compared to MGS4 or even Peace Walker).
