I hope they can just update their firmware to prevent a Wii like situation all over again...piracy is never good !

I beg to differ, my friend.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

and people wonder why 'always on' might be a requirement...

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Not a fan of piracy on systems that currently release and sell new games. It can kill the gaming market because depending on the amount of people who pirate games depending on how many actually purchase the titles. If there are titles released in Japan, we won't see those titles localized since usually they're niche titles that don't sell well to begin with, meaning they'll sell even worse.

The Dreamcast and the PSP ended up being the two easiest current gen systems to play pirated games and that ultimately made those consoles worse than they could have been. One thing to be noted is that even with the ease of piracy, the Japanese supported the consoles themselves rather than supporting piracy, while most western gamers would pirate if they know how and have the chance. Dreamcast still released games for years in Japan after being cancelled in other regions. PSP games, are still selling well in Japan.

For the thieves out there. Less piracy would mean you'd get more games that may or may not be better. Stop killing the industry. I dislike Nintendo as a company, but I still purchase their consoles so I can play the good exclusives that do come out. With Japanese localizations becoming the new niche in the west, piracy might completely kill any niche game support for the west like it eventually did for the PSP.

Incoming firmware update in T-minus 10 days.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Normally I'd say this is a bad thing but ... good. Nintendo deserves it.

They were going to take forever to slow trickle out those Virtual Console releases, and the OS is such a mess that Homebrew will be a welcome addition. There's so much that could be done with the controller that Nintendo probably will never do (like make it compatible with A/V receivers).

Actually the OS is running pretty well right now. The only thing i haven't tested on the new OS is if those abysmal installation speeds have been clocked up, but everything else is running silky smooth now.

There are also other things I wouldn't mind seeing Homebrewed like the ability to play video files (mkv?). Maybe the disc drive can even be hacked to play Blu-Ray discs.

The video files is possible, but playing blue ray discs will be impossible.

Pretty sure Nintendo is just using a modified Blu-Ray drive in the Wii U, much like the Wii used a modified DVD drive.

byebye console attach rates, even if theres a boost in console sales it'll be to buyers who have no intent on paying for a retail game, end result: same poor game sales, or worse from people tired of waiting for games deciding theyll no longer pay for it as a result, every day wiiu gets more and more like the dreamcast and gamecube.
