Normally I'd say this is a bad thing but ... good. Nintendo deserves it.
They were going to take forever to slow trickle out those Virtual Console releases, and the OS is such a mess that Homebrew will be a welcome addition. There's so much that could be done with the controller that Nintendo probably will never do (like make it compatible with A/V receivers).
