After all Call of Duty changed things but nobody expected it when the first COD came out so impossible to predict, to be honest it's not exactly a nice direction it took it in either so best not think about that one :p

Then there was Metal Gear Solid 4...wasn't that supposed to change something, but nothing happened.

Industry is all about the cash more than ever so any change will be a bad exploited change.

Realistically, yea.

We can only say which games could make a difference, with no certainty. I mean Resident Evil 4 really help spark the zombie theme in games, Halo pushed FPS's, after Pokemon made Nintendo handhelds big, and I bet Super Mario Bros. in 1985 was unexpected as well.

I see nothing that shows an obvious shift in the industry, maybe Monster Hunter 4 for 3DS since that will be a big blow to Vita sales in Japan, but it won't change the way we game.

Ahhh yes of course forgot about RE4 Wii edition, that had some massive talk on here well past it's release, not so much in the real world - least where I am, but then I do live in the ass end of nowhere.

Got me thinking actually about Monster Hunter...maybe a PS4/Nextbox monster hunter localized could go crazy?

Unlikely to even get one but only thing I can possibly think of and that's a complete shot in the dark.

I recently had another idea.

If The Evil Within is a great game, it could revive the survival-horror genre.
League of Legends and Dota 2 are already changing the F2P MOBA landscape.

And this is kinda my fanboyism kinda talking but if "X" can really implement ADB well with the 2nd screen that would be awesome. FFXII's system was good that you could control all the characters, but incomplete. Xenoblade's ADB was limited due to poor AI and the fact that controlling other characters was severely limited. Would be cool however, if they took Xenoblade's "Command" system by using visions and make it so that you could use the 2nd screen as a command touch screen, showing all the cooldowns of individual arts for each character and by tapping them you could "command" them to use a specific art, or "Lock" an art so they don't use it till you order them to. A bit more control than Xenoblade's less than FFXII's. Though it would be annoying to look down all the time again.

Though that would lessen the need for a really good AI and give the player more freedom with his strategies. One thing I don't want is items though except maybe fuel for the mechs. Soooooo awesome that items weren't needed. No need to stock up items to revive or any of that stuff. Keep the lack of items plz.

Bah yeah I'm far too hyped for this have to set my expectations lower.

Monster Hunter is a franchise which only makes an impact in Japan, and home consoles don't sell well in Japan. A home console exclusive Monster Hunter didn't particularly help Wii and 360, and it won't help PS4/NextBox.

The only reason MH4 makes a big impact is because it was a crowning franchise for PSP in Japan, and without it Sony portables are seriously injured. We will see a big boost to 3DS sales when this game releases, and it could have been the factor which made PSV a niche system.

Oh right forgot about this.

Rare's next Kinect title. If that full motion thing can really be mastered with 720 it could be massive.
Well any Kinect title or a Kinect-compatible title that can really master the usage of the device like Metroid Prime 3/Skyward Sword did Wiimote would be a game changer. We haven't seen any really amazing implementations of the device yet.

You are likely right, I thought about the Wii one before and remember the ads for it on tv in the UK a few years ago, it certainly looked to be appealing to a different demographic than it does in Japan. I'm thinking if it was on the PS4/Nextbox in western countries it could be targeted a lot more to the hardcore as that's likely where the seed would be needed to get word to spread...

I'm just making stuff up really but could see it happening potentially.

Of course Japan Monster Hunter on 3DS is very concerning for Vita (gulp) eeek!

Watch Dogs? How so? It looks rich in features and overall coolness but we're yet to get a broader look at it.

Too many unknowns for me to say anything like that. I'll have to wait to hear what other games are being planned at E3. However from the games we know, Destiny. Why? Because it is kind of setup to be like an MMO where the world will be constantly expanding for 10 years. If it is successful (And knowing Bungie it will be) other games could follow this type of expansion over years time on consoles.
