It was a delayed effect.. But in the end GTA4 did kill the Wii.. There is no deny that 2 years since it release the wii went down in popularity..

Wii U plus the others will easily put the available userbase over 15m. That's a pretty good opportunity for resales and Nintendo only folk or those willing to wait a couple months for the perceived better copy no next-gen.

i have no clue how GTA 4 killed the wii in fact i think both brawl and mario kart wii came out around the same time

exactly with a game like GTA 5 i imagine it has like over 100 million dollar bugdet with the PS3 and 360 user base i think they will make back the budget and the wii u, PS4, and 720 versions will just be bonus money

Next gen as in not released. A Wii U port on it's own makes sense considering the system attracts a different set of owners and could help build R*s image on the platform. Plus you know Nintendo would help out.

Why is that? 

There is very little bussiness reason behind such a version. We have a console with a low install base and very lagging in sales and momentum. Plus there is pretty much no GTA crowd on Nintendo platforms - no mainline GTA games on home consoles, one spin-off for the DS that outsold the much later PSP port by 300k with a much much higher install base and itself didn't sell gangbusters.

Then there may come developing problems, if this is a last minute decision port with a pretty short development time, we may end up with a sub-par experience performance  and/or graphics wise than that found on PS360 just like on many occasions with launch games, to name Assassins Creed, Darksiders, Batman and Call of Duty. For it to be a worthy game, it would need to be in development for quite some time, with more manpower and budget. 

That all calls for a flop and a waste of money and time.

A next gen port at least has potential, which Wii U version lacks in my opinion and that's why I would be surprised to see one.

what if say the PS4 and 720 gets GTA and both consoles sold around 200.000 to 300.000 when they come out GTA 5 will most likely less on those consoles 

That's why I said in my first post that I doubt other platforms than PS360, well maybe PC like GTA IV style.

And I of course agree that the game would sell little given the small install base of next gen consoles BUT they have enough horsepower to have a version that is clearly a level above the PS360 if we could get some work behind it, not a simple port with higher resolution.

Then I can easily imagine some decent legs for such a game, as the GTA crowd will naturally cater to the PS4 and next xbox and we may have to wait for another proper next gen GTA title for quite some time...



So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Lol.. Dont mind us.. We are just some old members remembering the good old days.. Back in 2008 a lot of users were convinced that when GTA 4 was released the HD consoles would start to outsell the Wii.. There was even a Forbes article about it..
