It's ok to be wrong, Rol.  Happens to the best of us...

Seriously though, I respect your opinion and I knew you weren't attacking SMW.  Just wanted to debate your points in true "Rol Thread" form. ;)

I guess by that you mean writing a big rebuttal that is missing the point?

The point of this thread is to take a dump on the physical manifestation of love, joy, and bliss?

I actually always thought the game was average, even at the time.

Playing all those timeless classics years after everyone else when tech is more advanced certainly gives you a different perspective of them. I loved SMW, but it's not THAT perfect.

I'd love one of these threads for Zelda: OoT. Just don't touch my GC, that's MY childhood.

Expect a "Destroying Your Childhood" thread on SMS, WW, and all the other GameCube classics soon!

I didn't miss the point of your thread. I read your OP. You're saying that SMW, in retrospect, is guilty of many of the very same reasons/excuses that people use to dismiss the games that succeeded it. Correct?

But you see, there's something to be said about a game of SMW's caliber, highs and lows alike, coming along in 1990 and the "New" games arriving in 2006 and beyond. So playing even almost an exact copy of my beloved SMW now is not going to reach the level of the original for me because I've already experienced that game. It would have to be a truly superior experience in order to look back at SMW being "flawed" and when we're talking about games which I feel are decidedly inferior, SMW remains Mario's finest hour for me.

Simply put, SMW does not successfully warrant this type of thread because its successors can't compete with it (my opinion).

Hmmmm this kinda resembles my thread that I made about the Legend of zelda. Have you been playing more Playstation again Rol?

OT- The thing about the NSMBWii and U games IMO is that I believe these games are meant to be played as a multi-player experience. Playing nsmbwii multiplayer is one the most fun times I had playing a game this gen, but I would never touch that game single player. This is where the older smb games have the new series beat, that is they their levels are far superior for single player experiences.

As for SMW vs SMB3 that is a tough one as it is hard to say which one is objectively better. For me I prefer SMW because it just has that much more charm in it. The music is better, the sound effects are spot on, the world seems better thought out, the enemies are well created and memorable everything just matches up neatly in the game (and mario eyes are not dots)

And this is with a solid game that just happens to be not as good as his sucessors.

What could happen in a thread about Final Fantasy VI (glitchfest) and VII (broken).

meh it was easy, but i have alot of good memories with that game and the people i played with when we got the snes and it was fuckin awsome! oh and super castlevania 4 which was also one of my favorites.

Well, my complaints for newer Super Mario Bros games did actually begin with Super Mario World when I was younger =P

The game did not feel like a worthy successor to Super Mario Bros. 3. It actually wasn't until Mario Galaxy that I had a game that felt like the real next Mario game.

SMW easier than NSMB2? Damn son, this is some IGN/Kotaku level of writing.

NSMB2 definitely has much more that is challenging in it. Super Mario World was a fairly easy game except for some of the Star Road levels, and some of the Choco levels. The last level and boss of the game were probably the easiest in the series.
