Forums - Gaming - How does the 3DS compare to the PSP, power wise?

after seeing this thread. i wonder how much the difference between the Vita and Ps3 are.

They are similar but beat eachother out in certain aspects. PS3's powerful CPU has its advantages and years of development knowledge behind it. Vita has more RAM and a powerful mobile video card and CPU set up. Right now Vita games are looking more impressive than early PS3 games easy. Games like Uncharted Golden Abyss at launch are just graphically behind Uncharted 2. LittleBigPlanet PS Vita matches up to LittleBigPlanet 2. Killzone Mercenary later this year should be close to Killzone 3 and use the same engine I don't expect it to be better than Killzone 3 graphics, but not far off.

In the end Vita will have games comparable to what PS3 final years have put out in a lot of categories and maybe with some technical surprises but this all rests on the developers.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Also remember that game makers get better with time. Compare launch PSP games with launch 3DS games and you'll see the large improvement.

If only people would remember this when talking about the Wii U, haha.

People do remember, and its still pathetic considering that the games NOW dont look better than games released on systems that came out years ago. Let me put it this way. Launch PS3 games looked better than anything on PS2, Launch PS2 games looked better than anything on PS1(tekken Tag vs. 3 proves this) SNES vs. NES and so. Nothing on Wii U looks better than anything on PS360 and its supposed to be next gen, thats the issue.

Not to pop your bubble, but people in the past were just as ignorant as they are today. Check out old threads and you'll see tons of people saying they see no difference between PS2 and PS3 in 2006 or xbox and 360 in 2005.

The 3DS is quite more powerful than the PSP. The 3DS is an middle-end Gamecube in certain aspects, and above a Wii in others. The PSP was weaker than the PS2.

A lot of games for 3DS still haven't fully taken advantage of the specs of 3DS. But DKCR 3D and Revelations, just as a few examples, show a lot of it's potential. It's still not capped out, though.

Kaizar and its super accurate spec data strike again xD

It's pretty hard to compare the consoles when you can't get the full specs on them. Comparing cores and clock speeds isn't very accurate either.

I'll expand on what Otakugemane did, trying to put the consoles in order of power, and add more in.

DS<

The 3DS CPU can handle GPU at 400 MHz on pre-install firmware, while the Wii CPU (729 MHz) can only handle GPU at 250 MHz and has it max clock at 243 MHz.

The GameCube has a 194 MHz GPU.

To sum up:

DS < PSP < PS2 < GC < Wii < 3DS

Thats the gap.

Like I said, comparing clock speeds isn't accurate at all. Not that I can find any clock speeds, I had to compare polygons and pixel fill rate.

Where are you getting your 3DS specs from?

The 360 has a 500 MHz GPU from 2004. The 3DS has a 400 MHz GPU from 2010. The Wii has a 243 MHz GPU from 2005. The GameCube has a 194 MHz GPU.

Vita>3ds>PSP in terms of power

The 3DS pixel fill rate is 1.6 BILLION.

So please tell me what the Wii pixel performence is.

So? It has to have such a large rate since it's 3D and two screens. That does not directly relate to the quality of graphics, especially since the bottom screen is usually not taking up a lot of resources.
