Forums - Sony - Will Capcom find their void filled if they decide to bring Monster Hunter to the Vita?

I doubt it. There have been several Monster Hunter clones on PSV and all had lackluster sales so far, even Soul Sacrifice which was supposed to be a gamechanger hasn´t sold 200k units yet. Actually it´s more wishful thinking on Sonyfans side than anything else right now.

You are mistaken. The numbers pulled are quite good considering the installed base. Actually the attach rate of Vita titles is quite high. The problem is on Sony not selling enough units of it (cause they cant afford a price cut).

Soul sacrifice seems alot more west market oriented after playing it. I'm not surprised Japanese didnt buy it in droves. I think it will sell better in the west due to its "God of War" vibe. I gather God Eater 2 would sell better if it was exclusive to the Vita. Since its multi with the PSP, it might not.

I also believe that capcom might release Monster Hunter 4G multi on the 3DS and Vita. That is if the platform doesnt completely die by the end of the year. Its Sony's job to pull it through for now. Its a great system, it deserves better.

You miss the point. 200k units won´t be a threat to MHs popularity no matter how high the attache rate is only because it released on a system with a tiny userbase. You are completely ignoring the absolute numbers in favour of relativ numbers here.

I doubt it, when a company decides what platform to develop for, it's all about market share. 13% of the handheld market doesn't really warrant investment. It's the old catch 22 - a company needs to sell consoles in order to get devs to make games for it, but devs need to make games in order to push the console. It's not a very different dilemma from the Wii U situation in the console world.

Capcom would probably make a return with a Monster Hunter game on Vita. It all depends on if Sony want to pay to get it on Vita and if Nintendo want to pay to keep it off Vita.

I've played MH3 on the 3DS and the graphics are terribad. Would look vastly superior on the Vita...

It's not because of the system it's on.  It's because it's Capcom.  Whether it's PS2, PSP, Wii, 360, Wii U, or 3DS, the graphics to each game look almost identical.

The Wii U and 360 have a higher resolution though, so it has a cleaner look.  Not as many jaggies, but when it comes to detail, textures, etc, the first isn't much different from the last.

No matter what though, I actually am starting to believe that eventually we will see a Monster Hunter game on Vita. Sony won't abandon this handheld. It took the Ps3 2 years to finally take off, after years of people calling it terrible and the next Dreamcast. I believe in Sony.

PS3 actually had relevant 3rd party support from the get go (announcements like FinalFantasy 13, FFVersus, DMC, MGS etc.pp) and thanks to X360 ports it never had a software problem. This was because most publishers bet on PS3 and invested accordingly even before the gen started due to coming from PS2. Sales were mediocre in the beginning but most people made it clear that it was mostly a price issue and that it will do well when the price falls down to a more mass market friendly point. So I don´t agree with this revisionist retelling of past events.

Regarding PSV the differences are a completely different 3rd party support and Sony not giving there all with their 1st and 2nd party efforts, and their top studios show no interest in changing their attitute towards handhelds.

FF13 turned 360, FFVersus still hasn't released, and DMC is 360 now also. And idk about you, but back then, no ps3 game was really that good ported from the 360. Im pretty sure that was the days of the most terrible ports ever. It was a price and games problem. Only game really worth owning until maybe Uncharted or MGS4 came out was Resistance. If you can name any other games that were on ps3 from 2006 to about 2008 that wasnt released after MGS4, then go ahead. Im going on first hand experience when I got my first Ps3 in 07.

Isnt that the same problem with the PSV though? Pretty sure mostly everyone who doesn't have one said they would get one if the price was lowered and memory cards were lowered. Just look at Japan and their price drop. The audience is there, just like it was for the Ps3.

FF13 didn´t vaporize after the x360 announcement so I don´t see the problem. It still got multiplats of the most hyped games and ports of former timed exclusives of titles where MS paid for marketing like Tales, Star Ocean etc, so there wasn´t any problem support wise. The reasons are known and have been already stated, most publishers invested accordingly before the gen even started and it was always considered a price issue therefore it was in no point in it´s lifecycle abandoned.

Another point I want to mention is that while ports for PSV are definetly better than nothing, there is difference to PS3 getting multiplats in the beginning. PS3 was considered to be the most powerful console and even when ports have been worse compared to X360 obviously it wasn´t considered a big deal by the majority, PS3 beeing the stronger system was a more valid argument. Also since especially in the beginning most chose one system due to higher console prices it wasn´t a problem at all that those highly marketed games are on a different system as well since most didn´t own another console anyway.

The problem which also WiiU faces is that these ports nowadays are games that due to the ~7 year time to built a userbase for PS3+X360 userbase most gamers already can play on a system they already own. Something that couldn´t be said in the beginning of the gen when it was either PS3 or X360 and the fact that X360s userbase wasn´t big enough to cause such an overlap like we see today. We are talking about roughly 10millions (X360 when PS3 released) and 145Millions PS3+X360 today. That´s why PS3 ports for PSV aren´t exactly system-sellers and why those games didn´t sell on PSV.
