^This!
Kinect capturs movement and Sound. Occulus Rif gives you the 3d view, and current controllers give you some vibration and feedback. Yes, Kinect is somewhat in the 16 bit gen for tech, and can and should be improved. And Kinect 2.0 will probably be a decent upgrade.
For the record I use Kinect most every single day. I don't always use movement, but voice is just second nature now.
Microsoft seems to think so, after all that's been 60%-70% of all their E3 conferences since 2010 and Kinect's been carrying the 360 sales since it released.
Here's a question to your question which will give you my answer; Is the Wii motion controls the future of gaming?
BTW, Nintendo with the release of the WiiU have already answered your question.
As for the Kinect key purpose, I think it'll be mostly used for the OS navigation, make it easier for the casuals out there who know how to swipe with their fingers, and now they can swipe with their hands to navigate the 720 OS and choose their non gaming goodies like ESPN, Netflix, Huluplus, ETC, this is why it'll be a requiremt to always have it plugged in.....sure some devs including Microsoft will make some games using it, like they have now, but it's not exactly it's purpose in the 720.
I feel motion gaming devices like Kinect certainly are part of the future of gaming.
But not THE future of gaming.

And I think it's more fun to go, "Xbox, Bing, Find me that show I want to watch." than tap, tap, tap, stuff in the keyboard. I think the more people that try it the more people like it.
In general there will be way more input possibilities on whatever computes than some can or want to imagine. Siri is just a start and so is Move, Kinect or Wiimote. How this affects gaming we will see.
