are YOU insane? It is highly unlikely that Sony would ever put forth a device that would force them to lose such a huge amount on it and no way they will start at anywhere near $600 again. This was stated by them already that the system would be "nowhere near" the starting price of PS3. 100bucks is not that much cheaper than that so $399-$450 is most likely in worst case scenario. 

Sony is obviously geting some crucial deals on all their parts. We already know AMD is basically giving them top notch work for chump change. They most likely have the hook up for the RAM as well.

I imagine it will be a similar situation to the Vita, regardless of how good the system is doing, it is still currently profitable. Every Vita sold is money in the bank. Same will go for PS4, where it is at least making some small amount of profit. I think the parts all together are probably costing Sony no more than $320.

They have never stated this. And I imagine they are selling for a moderate loss going by the razor and blades approach. They are selling their memory cards at absurd prices to make up the loss. The only thing they have stated is that Vita will be profitable after some years.

It is far more likely that they are currently selling the Vita at a loss than a profit. (maybe not in NA now but for sure in Japan.)

R&D costs, marketing, shipping add to the price. $449 is a possibility but $399 is pushing it.

I'm going to assume a $350-450 price range.

The PS4 should be able to quickly over take the Wii U despite launching 12 months later.
Many gamers are waiting for the PS4 to launch.
There is huge growing demand for the PS4, 7 years after the launch of the PS3.
It is time to launch the PS4 now!

You don't know what manufacturing, shipping and packaging will cost just like everyone else. $400 doesn't automatically mean this thing will be at a $100+ loss. There's no reason to call anyone in the thread delusional. 

I think the ps4 will be priced at 399 and if they have another sku it will be 449

But you can be sure that this is what they intend.
