I can see WHY you would want backwards compatibility from a business standpoint as the Xbox 360 users would essentially be locked into the next Xbox's platform.

However, if it drives up the price then I'm not for it, I would rather they spent the money on a better Graphics processor so my PC would benefit greatly from it.

With that said, The Xbox 360 and Playstation 3's CPU is slow by modern standards, especially when compared to x86, which is to be expected, they are over 7 years old.
So if they can get the IPC up substantially on the newer consoles, software emulation should be relatively feasible which would be cheaper than a hardware implementation like with what Sony did with the early PS3's.
But if anything is to go by with the PS4, the next Xbox will probably be going with a heavily threaded Netbook/Tablet x86 class processor which probably isn't going to be up to the task.

You're not familiar with this rumor I guess.

Microsoft is going to sell a no disc drive "mini" xbox 360 for $99. This is a fully functional XBOX 360, it just can't play discs. However it is also designed as a companion app to the 720 to allow bc. It's hooked up/plugged in so that the 720 controls everything. It's equivalent to having native backwards compatibility at this point. No emulation is used.

And this would depend on how many gamers will have their current 360s broken. I feel the extra piece of hardware unit would never be worth the buy/price in the long run for BC. Emulation options seem more viable.

What is this 720 thing you are talking about?  Is it some sort of console they advertised in the movie Real Steel that if you get, Hugh Jackman comes over and plays at your house?

Seems like some are willing to throw down $99 while others bitched about having to spend about a hour to transfer from Wii-Wii U (less time if you have less VC and WW titles which a majority of people have less than me).

it took some people that long for me not counting the step up it took like 10 minutes for me

Oh, I wish they could do this also on mini-60! I also installed all my 360-games and perhaps would be willing to pay a small fee to run my disc-based games on mini-60. This would make an easy and nice transition for me!

yes.. I would buy 2 of them to get it as a small media device for my TV in the bedroom and workoffice.. then the 720 would be in my main living room..

it could be even more awesome if it worked as a streamer so that the 720 feed can be displayed on a TV with the mini360 hooked up.. I should call MS about that idea..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

ps3 dongle? Wtf is that??

There was a rumor, must have been a month or more before the PS4 event, that there was a dongle attachment to the PS4 that would connect through a high traffic cable or something. It would do the processing of PS3 games, letting the PS4 be backwards compatible having it as an optional accessory instead of raising the price by having it in box.

It could exist even, if MS is doing it with the 360 I don't see why not. It would have to not have a HDD or a disk drive or fans, just use heat syncs so it will be noiseless and as small as they can get it. Think something less than half the size of the super slim.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

It's a very good idea and a step in the right direction for the nextbox. For me personally? I don't need it because I obviously still have a fully functional xbox 360. I still want one of those white slim 360's....Holy shit they look great. If it looks anything like it I will consider this an option though going forward.

i like this way of making backwards compatibility in the 720. But i am not interested in this much at all. you have to remember your paying a monthly bill, like a cell phone. so its not like its only $100. its basically an Xbox for more poor or unbalanced people.

That is because people expected no BC.

why cant they make it to where you put your 360 game in your 720. it regconizes it as a download not a disc. you then can play your old 360 games like a indie game off your 720. why do we need to buy a whole other system. i just think its stupid, and their just trying to get more money from us.
