Forums - PC - What is going to kill of tablets and cause a return to PCs?

I saw this article pop up:

http://www.vgchartz.com/article/250889/pc-shipments-on-record-decline-in-q1-2013/

In a thread in the past, someone was insistent that tablets were going to die off, and PCs will out in the day.  However, PC shipments are declining and keep declining.  What exactly is going to end up reversing this trend and causes tablets to die off, and PCs to make a return?  If a tablet with a keyboard does what most people need, why would they go with a PC?

Tablets becoming PCs and people stop buying proprietary, limited to apps OS devices due to perceived usefulness?

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

In this, what do you consider a tablet vs what you consider a PC?  is the difference a harddrive, or the addition of a mouse?

The difference would be in OS function. Hence I think:

MS Surface RT = Tablet

MS Surface Pro = PC tablet

A tablet with a keyboard is basically a pc. Heck even without a keyboard I think a tablet covers the definition of a PC. But if you mean a traditional PC, aka desktops and laptops. The markets will eventually completely merge. Microsoft tried doing this with windows 8 but failed to satisfy the tablet crowd and alienated the PC crowd. Though someone, maybe even microsoft's next illiteration, will successfully manage to combine the two platforms.

Traditional PC sales will not experience a resurgence for the same reason digital camera sales became a niche product after the rise of smartphones. Only enthusiests will need PCs as tablets get closer and closer to emulating everything that the majority of PC users need.

better taste

The traditional tabletop PC is going extinct. Laptops are merging with tablets. Steambox will replace gaming PCs.
I just got a touch screen laptop myself, but a true hybrid would have been better (but too $$$).

This whole PC declining business may not be as bad as people think. I mean the reason why they are dropping is because most people who own pcs these days build there own therefor shipments of course are dropping because the consumers that buy pre built will go for portable

I actually don't get the whole tablet craze. I own 2 of them. A brand new iPad and a Galaxy Tab. My 3 year old daughter uses both of them more than I do.

For gaming a 3DS, Vita or laptop is better.

For work PCs are better. Try editing a spreadsheet with complex forumlas on a tablet, or editing a photo properly.

For the mobile aspect of them, smartphones are more mobile and have all the same functionality.

I don't get it. The only thing I use mine for is reading comics. I basically paid $500 for a glorified comic reader. Tablets seem like a jack of all trades, but master of none. I'm not sure how long it will take the market to realize this.

If by most you mean 1% you are right.
