Forums - Microsoft - There is only one thing that would stop me from getting a NextBox...

It depends on whether the cable provider is willing to pay MS a little bit of every cable sub that goes through an Xbox. MS wants to make money off everything, so unless these 3rd party service providers give MS a cut of their subs MS will get their cut by requiring you to have Gold.

Anyway, the $200/$300 plus subs payment option requires you to have Gold otherwise MS won't make anything. I'm starting to wonder whether MS will even bother selling a vanilla console, in the USA at least.

For me, the Always online rumor is always a turnoff, as my internet is patchy at times and i don't see why i should have to play online. Plus i don't trust Microsoft to have enough games to differentiate from PS4, they seem to be getting similiar support already, Ubisoft seemingly confirming so with watch dogs and AC4. I want a variety of exclusive games for nextbox like Sony will for PS4. This gen too many games were on both Xbox 360 and PS3, which is why i stuck with PS3. The Xbox exclusives they had weren't enough to bring me over

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

Im not getting next xbox whether the rumors are true or not. Exclusives make me buy systems and xbox doesn't have enough of them. Plus Im not paying for online when I can play online for free on psn. That's why I plan on getting a ps4 instead.

Those features requiring a Gold membership is already a given for obvious reasons.

Not obvious enough for me apparently. If they are going through Comcast or Verizon or some other cable provider and I am already paying my cable bill why would I also need xbox live to watch tv?

Because I already do this with my Xbox 360.

This whole using your 360 as a cable box is nothing new. Here in the UK, MS has a contract with Sky (the biggest television service provider) which allows Sky customers who have broadband access to use their Xbox 360 as a cable box to play Sky channels. I have been doing this for years now, watching TV in my bedroom through 360 while the living room has the set top box provided by Sky.

And guess what? To be able to watch TV on 360 I have to have Xbox Live gold AND pay for my TV service.

Hmm... Thats disappointing.

So wait, you want it to block used games and you want it to be always-on?

Color me confused.

No, I don't want those things. I just wouldn't care for the same reason that I wouldn't care that roku does that. The xbox probably won't be my games device next gen but it could be a solid multimedia device.

Ofcourse thats contingent on all these features not being locked behind a pay wall.

Next-Gen is all about services. TV/DVR features is a service. That will require Xbox Live Gold. You can be sure about that.

Another thing you should probably be aware of.....not all set-top boxes will be supported. If you're like me and you have the cheapest of the cheapest set-top box, that probably won't be compatible with the next Xbox. Probably only the high-end ones.

Yeah those are the two big factors for me too, if both of those or even one come to fruition, I'm out. But as long as MS foolishly avoids those "features", and the price is reasonable enough, consider me on board.

You don't think that the Nextbox will be a set top box itself without needed an additional box?

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(
