Didn't know the UK market was that small

As Kowen said earlier, 23 million home consoles have bee sold in the UK, it isn't even close to a small market. Downplay with a side of what? Hmm, arrogance? Denial? Who knows...

Do Sales really matter? Nintendo made a huge Profit on Wii where as Xbox and PS3 not so much. In business terms its the smart companys that make money. Any company can copy another companys ideas and make it better over time. Any company can make a super powerful system and sell it at a loss. What Nintendo do is amazing, they can make profits in console manufacturing which is no easy feet for any company. Wii doesnt have to sell anymore, its done its job. It made Nintendo Millions, Wii = Success.

This one too, though it's actually well thought out and makes sense. Microsoft have made a tonne of money from the 360. A comment like this is just a bit of downplaying. Better than the post above though, by far.

personally having gone through 3 360s i would like to know the real base numbers not including replacements for RROD. just curious. we will probably never know. but great numbers M$, the 360 is a good system and recommend it to any gamer now with the redesign.

Considering there isn't any sort of "official" race, most look at it as three races - the generation until the first successor (total sales until WiiU released - Wii won), the generation until ALL successors (so each system until WiiU, PS4, and nextBox all release - Wii will win that overall, but will lose certain markets), and the overall generation sales (from release until end of support - PS3 may end up winning that overall).

considering there is no race at all this line of thought is especially convoluted. A race would imply there is a start and finish. First person to X wins. Even though MS might say the first person to 10mil wins that isn't the case.

Now that 360 overtook Wii in UK after Wii U came out I expect the same congradulatory responses from everyone in this thread when Ps3 over takes 360 globally.
