Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft Studios’ creative director defends always-online Xbox 720

They will be opening a Pandora's Box with this. Just imagine the things they could come up with next based on this "always on" system. I think if this is indeed the case they will not allow used games, and that will be just the beginning.

That is what happens when you use a cell phone. Also are you trying to imply something about Xbox users? Ban incoming?

All those words and yet you miss the point. It's cute. Let me break it down in way less words:

Look at graph.
See FY 1996, 1997, 1998 Nintendo. See line up.
See PS3. Line go down. Line go way down.

I hope that was simple enough. Really the last post I will make on this matter. Thanks though LOL.

You may think you're good at sidestepping the issue, but you're not.

I completely understand what 'line go down' means, and I'm not debating that.

Our original discussion was regarding what a 3rd console curse is. You were skeptical. We provided evidence. Now suddenly this is about Sony? I don't think so bud, that's not how discussion works. This was never a big dick contest between the console manufacturers. This is at the beginning and at the end, simply about what a third console curse is. n64 was profittable yes, but that doesn't mean it invalidates the third console curse. Was nowhere near what nes or snes or gameboy or gba or wii, and won't even sell what wiiU does either.

The fact that the line went up means nothing. If we were to take the metric as average revenues, we would have
Nintendo: 3B per console
Sony: 300m per console
MS: -150m per console

Since the n64 went below 3B, even as far down as 900m, then that's what we're talking about.
PS3 is like -3B
720 will be (predicted) -1B

get it?
I'm trying my best to elucidate this for you. It's such a simple, if not meaningless, idea that I don't understand the intransigence here. Third console curse is just kind of an interesting phenomenon, that yes, will one day be overcome.

A good metaphor would be the washington redskins presidential selection. In the past however many tens of elections, if the redskins win their home game the week before the election, then that means the incumbent will win. If they lose, then the challenger will win office.

It's a similar phenomenon in that it's not really 100% truth, or anything like that. It just is what it is, funny, and interesting. Challenging it is like saying "oh but in 2000 there was a bad ref call, so I'd say that should've been a win". Which is what you're doing, so to speak. Nevertheless, this election, the redskins lost, but the incumbent won. It's just a trivial matter, try not to think to much about it.

The third console curse exists. It's just as simple as that. It's not guaranteed, and it's totally superstition, but it's a fun phenomenon to throw around. If you don't get that, I don't know what to say. Maybe you don't understand how people interact, or something.

Forums are full of idiots, and I don't necessarily have to read them. I also don't have to play a videogame console either. Unlike an appliance, I don't need a videogame console. And if competitors don't require it, then why do I go Microsoft? Sorry, I have not bought the latest Gears or Halo games. I don't feel a need for them.

Reality? I am doing tabletop games that don't even need electricity to be played, just sufficient lighting.

And heck, if Microsoft's console can help me pay my bills, I will be online all the time.  I do that with tech support out of the house now.  I don't get online, I don't get paid.

Always-on connection
Mandatory kinect
Windows 8

Please be excited.

You insulted my religion for dissing kaz. That was a serious mistake buddy! :D

And no, xbox fans are quite intelligent. I don't like many of them, but I know the xbox guys here are extremely intelligent.
I just didn't recognize who you were.

this has got to be just a huge troll. I'm starting to really believe that all the negative news is just MS having fun with the media. They're going to show up with none of these rumors being true and troll everyone.

Laughing my ass off at this post because seriosuly I am now praying that MS alctually are just trolling everyone with all these rumors.

I live in one of the best Internet connected countries(Sweden) and even my router just stops working sometimes, or my modem just stop. If all this is true I really can see a reason why so many would choose PS4 instead.

Just because my phone is always online on a network doesn't mean that I want my 3G data to be on all the time and the same applies here.

N64 wasn't bad.

Game wise? no not really...but from a developer standpoint Nintendo basically Pissed in everyone's faces and told them it was raining

I think they did ok. Still profited tons of money and put out amazing games. Nintendo won and gamers won with that console. Not sure how anyone could compare it to the PS3, which cost Sony billions, and Saturn, which was a disaster for Sega.

I was pointing out to the way the Market and History remembers that console....a failure when stacked up to the PS1 which was the new kid on the block and effectively handed Nintendo its ass

So when you guys say "cursed" you're just talking forum fodder and sales charts? Because the N64 was a tremendous success in the market for Nintendo. Yeah Sony might have "handed Nintendo its ass" in terms of hardware sold, but they sold at a loss to do it. Something that, over their course in the market, has not done them any favors.

Yeah, let's forget about the gameboy color and advance when nintendo had no competition on the handheld market.

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.
