Forums - PC - PC Gaming Irrelevant or Relevant?!

Ok alot of people have asked me before whether or not PC Gaming is the right choice for them. I simply reply and say it's all preference, but I wan't to know from other what they think would get them to switch to PC gaming.

First Question: What are the most relevant PC Exclusives? Not on consoles so No you can't say Half-Life just because the PC version has better visuals and support.

Second Question: How is Steam able to price their games at a lower price then retailers themselves?

Third Question: Which one is more bang for your buck will you get everything you wan't out of PC gaming or no?

Just answer these Questions. Oh and don't forget to say which is more Relevant in this day and Age PC Gaming or Console Gaming?

Technically the most relevant are

1)
League of Legends (it's bigger than any game on consoles)
Dota 2
WoW
Starcraft II

Not my favorite games but those are the most relevant

2) Uhh, it's digital and there's multiple places that sell downloads so it has competition, IDK, and not XBL, or PSN, ask steam

3) It depends PC gaming has years of games, the best versions of multiplat, Can play most non current generation console games with better visuals wii, PS2 and before, plus you have mods which turns Skyrim, New Vegas into much better games, Texture mods, and in general if you enjoy modding, it adds another layer.

4) consoles are most relevant because thats where 99% or so AAA titles are developed for.

Great answer lol I love having these type's of conversations.

1) DOTA, WoW, Starcraft 2, Torchlight 2, Guild Wars 2 for me as of 2013.

2) No used market in PC games, developers have less "licensing" fees thru Steam. The game can be sold for one dollar if the publisher/developer agrees to that price, and can still make money off it.

3) Gaming PC is more costly up front but over time it ends up being cheaper (usually), and you can use the PC for things besides gaming. I prefer console gaming, but PC is defenitely cheaper.

Steam is awesome. Don't forget Amazon deals that use Steam keys. Last year I could have gotten quite a few titles for $10ish when they were more expensive on consoles.

It's just that simple.

PC gaming relevant due to inputs - KB+M is a much more effective control method than thumbsticks. For example, better headshot accuracy in PC version of an FPS compared to its console counterpart.

Also, PC has the future-proofing method of easy upgrades. Most PC gamers at the very least know how to change out a PCI-e card or a stick of memory.

Console gaming is more relevant since its a mainstream phenomenon right now. People that think of themselves as "gamers" buy consoles alot and they buy the uberhyped games because they want to be cool. (ATTENTION! I AM NOT SAYING CONSOLE GAMERS ARE NO REAL GAMERS! I HAVE ALL CONSOLES AND A PC!)

For me there is simply no other way than buying games on PC when they are multiplat. Because the PC version simply IS superior.

I can use it at more than 1 pc at the same time
I can play them without a disk even tho I have the retail version. (retail=important for collectors)
I can play the game in Coop/Lan mode with friends that dont own the game.
I can mod them as much as I want and when they are full of bugs the community can fix it.
I can play them in 20 years without buying them again since the technology is just evolving and not being dropped like on consoles. (just look at all the upressed HD versions of "SD" games lol thats nothing you should pay for at all on PC you just increase the resolution for FREE)

I dont have to pay 60 for a new game its mostly 40 (Tomb Raider for example is 22€)
I can play with mouse/Keyboard AND controller.
The whole technology is not proprietary etc.

P.S. Steam games at least in huge parts of Europe are more expensive than the retail versions especially at launch (Tomb Raider is 49€ on steam, 45€ retail on Amazon and 22€ retail when you know where you have to look)

P.P.S Its astonishing that so many console gamers bash other consoles for being inferior when it comes to graphics but its not allowed to mention that PCs are superior. Why is this? I mean they will whine about PS4 etc being "more powerful" than PCs (for a while) but why is it forbidden to mention it the other way around?

Its also interesting that people play shooters on consoles with dead zone crippled input devices (analog sticks) when there is something called mouse and keyboard out there.

So sadly PC became irrelevant thanks to PS360 being mainstream devices. The PC market was overshadowed by consoles and how easy it is to make profit on them (because of the huge number of mainstream gamers) PC is what gaming actually was NICHE.

I don't consider PC gaming to be a niche, How many millions play League of Legends? World of WarCraft? Heck, the origional StarCraft sold at-least 10 million copies thanks to being a massive sport in South Korea.
Hell even casual gaming on the PC dwarfs that of the consoles, think of how many 10's of millions of people play those flash-based facebook games or the fact that the Sims franchise has passed 125 million sales.

Even Steam has well over 50 million accounts now, which is very competitive to the Xbox/360, Origin has about 30 million, Uplay... Who knows... The point is, PC gaming is bigger than what people think.

Besides, without the PC, consoles would never be as powerfull as the Xbox or the PS3 or these new machines coming out, it's all thanks to the innovation and constant evolution in graphics that the PC has done for the last several decades.

WHAT is a niche however is the Enthusiast PC gamer, you know... Those who spend un-told thousands to get the best possible performance and graphics, no holds barred.

If you mean about core gaming or gaming as a gaming site and its members usually consider it, console gaming is way more relevant than PC gaming since the mid 90's and I say it as a primarily PC gamer.

I really doubt the trend is going to change anytime soon... and as far as gaming development is concerned the scene hasn't done anything relevant since Half-Life 2. It was our last hurrah. Nowadays the games outside the multiplats are only MMORPGs or bad to average first person shooters.

Exclusive Games
1. League of Legends (so much fun and such a HUGE game)
2. Dota 2
3. Starcraft and any other RTS games (Company of heroes, Warcraft, and many many others)
4. Texture and graphical enhancement mods on top of already superior graphics on all multiplats

Im not sure how steam is so cheap but it is. I rarely pay full price for games anymore. Because of this i feel that PC gaming is a better bang for your buck. For $1000 or less you can get an amazing computer. Hell for even $800 you can build a good gaming rig that will spank next gen consoles from a technical standpoint. So between that and the low price of games i think its a much better bang for the buck.

Id say console gaming is more popular because its easier to access. However neither form of gaming is more relevant than the other.

Long Live SHIO!

To me:
Without Steam its irrelevant because their outside of a handful of exclusives theres not much to talk about, all you can really brag about is graphics and mods.
With Steam, it gets the top multiplats at cheaper prices, so yeah its worth it.
