Wipeout HD, I understand, I used to play F-Zero GX on my projector, with my feet at the base of the screen. This can make you sick, lol. However GT5? I've raced cars on the track before, and I even have a racing licence, and I think a screen that big would be terrible. I can't play a racing SIM where the windshield and steering wheel in the game are bigger then in real life. How long have you had that projector for? I only had mine for 5 years, and I dunno, some things were just too big. I care for resolution now then size, GT5 is a good example, and FPS's too.

I find Surround Sound a much more immersive feature then a projector. When you pass a car in GT5/Forza, or play a FPS and hear an enemy behind you, or better yet play a survival horror, which plays games with the speakers....that's awesome.

As for PSP, that's probably why you didn't enjoy it. It wasn't meant to be a home console, and most of the games are ports/remakes of old classics. It's really nice being able to play a classic on the go, or just in bed or something. Heck I bet some games (like Resistance) just felt down right Sofa King Re:ToddEd on the big screen, especially when PS3 versions have much better controls.

I don't sit with my feet touching the screen haha. Eye distance while reclining is about 12 ft. That is the same fov as sitting 2.8ft away from a 21.5" pc monitor.

I can only stand to drive a racing sim from in car view behind a pc monitor. It feels like I'm driving from the back seat at 12ft, very unnatural. Driving in classic view or bonnet cam feels right from that distance with that fov. Plus I get in a lot less accidents with games like nfs most wanted on a big screen. I almost feels like cheating winning most of the races online, driving out ahead undisturbed, crash free.

Resolution is better in the living room, also 12ft away but 52". It is a bit harder to read the small text from modern games at that distance, since games don't adhere to recommended text sizes. When 4K becomes popular we can have both, crisp resolution and great fov.

You're right about surround sound, more important then resolution for me otherwise I would be playing more on my pc. My pc is limited to uncompressed stereo through hdmi. Uncompressed 5.1 from the ps3 walks all over that. And you need a bit of room to fully appreciate good surround. Having a bit of distance from the speakers and subwoofer works much better for me.
I hope next gen gets some HD sound too. The couple of blu-rays I have with in 96/24 and one in 192/24 sound a step above the normal surround field from 48khz.

Which is indeed another strike against psp, the sound. I had wipeout on psp. Love the series, completely ineffective on psp. Locoroco, Daxter and Ratchet and Clank were entertaining, but even in those games I miss surround sound.

I've been using a projector since 1996. First one was CRT with a 72" screen. PS1 games, now that was some resolution to get used to :) Still I played FF7 all the way on that screen, was awesome. I have fond memories of V-Rally too, CRT is very good at scaling up image sizes. PC games were a lot sharper at 640x480 and later 800x600, but uncomfortable balancing kb+mouse on the couch. Star trek voyager elite force was the first game I played in 800x600 on that CRT projector, first time I actually felt vertigo in a game.

PS3. It felt lacking in comparison to the PS1 and PS2. Until this point, I've never traded in any of my consoles, but the PS3 didn't grip me enough to feel it was worth keeping. There were a few interesting games that I did enjoy, but the games I used to buy a Sony system for (Final Fantasy, Metal Gear mainly and other 3rd party Japanese games) seemed to take a dip in quality, which ruined my enthusiasm.

I like handhelds, so the PSP was great for me. I have a Vita as well, but I'm not ready to judge it only a few months after owning it.

PSP, still had its moments though.

The PS3, definitely. It's basically a symbol of Sony's arrogance and how it came back to bite them in the ass.

Rather than accommodating developer's wishes, they went with the Cell technology to pursue their own fantasy ideas. Between that, the PS2 hardware BC, and the Blu-ray drive, they ended up with a device that lost money even when sold at $600. But they were sure that people would "get a second job to buy it" and that "the next gen doesn't start until we say so."

And then what happened? It only sold half as much as the PS2 did, due to Microsoft eating their lunch in the core market while Nintendo opened up a new one with the Wii. Meanwhile, it's taken years for their own internal studios to really draw out the full scale of the Cell's power; most third-parties, meanwhile, didn't even bother, resulting in several multiplats running better on the cheaper 360.

That the PS4 looks to go in the complete opposite direction in terms of design is a brilliant strategy on Sony's part. Shame they didn't have the foresight to do that this gen.

LOL, you can't read the small texts from 12 feet away on a 52"? I have 20/15 vision, so I never had a problem with that. The only time the text is annoying is playing something like Lost Planet on a 20" CRT television. The text size is fine, but it's so damn blurry at that small size, you have to take your eyes off the game to focus for a second to read it.

Oh, I agree about playing old games on the Projector. SNES on the projector is just awesome. It's pretty insane playing Donkey Kong Country or Kirby's Dream Course when Diddy is the size of a small dog.

Anyway, enjoy your projector, just saying that you probably didn't enjoy PSP as much as you could have because you played it on the TV, or for a couple hours on a plane.

Might buy a Vita. Never thought about PSP with that analog "stick" and less than stellar console imitation (hated the MGS games for it and CoO is my least favorite GoW by far, though GoS is right up there with my favorites). Vita I could picture myself maybe having if they have a memory card with 64gb eventually since I wouldn't want to carry around cards. The analogs are a big improvement and after holding one I could picture myself playing on it, but Pokemon is still more enticing than any other handheld game even after all these years and Nintendo games just translate well to portables so I would probably go that route too. Point being, Vita I might get, PSP I never even considered.

PSP. What a waste of my money...

could never really get into the psp

Proud owner of a Genesis, 32X, Sega Cd, Game Gear, Nomad, Dreamcast, NES, SNES, Gameboy, GBA, DS, DS Lite, Wii, PS, PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360, Atari Lynx, Atari Jaguar, PC Engine, Turbo Grafx, Turbo CD, Turbo Duo & Turbo Express.

Since I didn't have a PSP I'll have to say the PS2. Granted there isn't anything worse about it than the PS1, and really a PS2 was like a great upgrade of the PS1, but it really did not add anything aside from DVD playback that wasn't a hassle. It added nothing more in terms of OS and while it could play 4 player games, it needed an accessory, same for online play, you had to buy an adapter. Memory cards were improved but they were still memory cards.

The controllers were better too....damn it now I don't think I should have said any PS system. I did spend a lot of time playing PS1 games on my PS2. I guess I really wished the PS2 was more of an improvement then it was but I guess I'm comparing it to my modded Xbox which isn't fair and the PS3 added so much functionality in the OS it was such an improvement outside of great looking games too.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

PSP even though I enjoy Daxter and GTA. but then again I install CFW and now I can play GBA and SNES games on there.
