One could ask where's the "fairness" in one species, humans, getting priority over thousands of others?

Of course we value our own kind over others, we're programmed to.

Honestly, things like humans repopulating species on other planets and such, that's all a bit far fetched and distant compared to the here-and-now reality of our destruction of thousands of species.

We haven't had priority in the past.

Number of species is not even relevant we are all one in the end, the species classification is human made and you can't put a value on it anyway. 1000 species are not more worth than 1.

Nothing is fair in life and death thats my point, the human extinction would not be better for life. We are life we are part of nature who decides whats better ? Nobody does.

The destruction of species is bad because ?

The repopulating life after disasters  (not necessarily on other planets) is just to show you the only objective metric that exist for life is survival and if Humans exists life has a theoretical chance of prolonged survival. So its objectively speaking "better" for life if humans continue to exist.

Its infact not better for life if humans die in order to save animals. Its better for those animals only.

What I'm talking about is a new discovery. It turns out that there is a special kind of DNA that is only in cancer cells. It was difficult to find, but it's common with all cancer cells. It doesn't matter what kind of cancer it is, it will have this newly discovered DNA that is unlike our double helix.

The problem with fighting cancer today is we have very little way to target cancer cells so we end up poisoning the entire body and hope the weaker cancer cells will die first.

What this new discovery gives us is a way to target cancer cells directly. How we do it is yet to be found. Maybe there is a chemical compound that will destroy only this new DNA but have no effect on normal human DNA. I don't know. I'm sure the best minds are on the job as I type this.

It's not going to happen overnight. But for the first time in the history of cancer research we have finally found a universal cancer weakness to exploit.

Its an universal mutation happening in all cancer cells ? Need a source pls.

Here's an article with the appropriat sources on the story: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/23/quadruple-helix-dna_n_2527882.html

I'm not a scientist. But I get excited when new research comes to light. I will never understand it all, but I trust the more knowledgeable when they say something is worth exploring in the fight against cancer.

There's also this: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/home/science/One-drug-for-many-types-of-cancers-human-trials-to-begin/articleshow/19290930.cms? which is even more exiting because it's already on it's way to human trials.

I see its interesting thanks for that. Its just no cure for cancer. With cure I mean repairing mutated cells for good not inhibiting the growth.

The discovery is interesting it seems like they assume that in all cancercells are higher concentrations of those entangled DNA strands messing up the replication of the DNA and they hope to stop those cells from replicating. It might not work for all cancer types, there is no data available yet and could potentially stop healthy cells from replicating too. Cancer can hide and spread finely grained were nothing can reach it and operation is impossible. Distributing a potent drug to all cells in the human body is not possible yet.

They must collect data first and I would be very surprised if they find a clearcut way to differnciate all cancercells from healthy cells like that.

Not saying this couldn't improve the life of millions of people significantly and make cancer more controllable in the future. But this will not transform cancer to a common cold we can stop Aids somewhat but people still fear it. It is however amazing and could pave the way for a new and better way to treat cancer.

I would like a world where people actually legitimately love and care for each other. No social separation between good looking, poor, rich, strong, weak ect. A world where each person is self-reflecting and interested in the well being of others and not just on the surface like it is today. People will tell you they love others but their selfish actions and desire to only be around people on there social class tells a different story.

Make sure that everyone get excellent education. If it's good enough, it might even offset the affects that lousy and/or ignorant parents might have.

Exterminate the human race.

Well, that doesn't seem harsh at all!

If you think about it, that's one of the ''nicest'' things that could happen to earth, and it doesn't make me proud at all...

How is it one of the nicest things that could happen to earth ? How does the planet benefit from the extermination of the human race.

Many species we are pushing towards extinction would be saved, and the environment would benefit from no longer being our punching bag.

I'm pretty sure species went extinct before any trace of humans existed on this planet.

As for the environment ... um who cares? Setting aside the fact that the impact that humans have on the environment is negligible, what value will the earth have to anyone or anything if humans are extinct? The environment will be destroyed eventually as a result of the sun burning up all of its hydrogen. The only thing that could possibly save the planet would be humans through some elaborate process of moving the whole planet somewhere else (never even heard of that being done even in sci-fi ). So yeah this planet is doomed in the long run even if all humans were wiped out tomorrow.

A lot of people

Unfortunately, you are right. I was just trying to point out the fact that caring about the environment is, ultimately, pointless.

Also, the idea that anyone would consider eliminating humanity in order to prevent supposed damage to a big chunk of dirt flying through space is pretty disturbing.

Would you prefer to live 5 years or 50 years?  This is in relation with this topic.   Sure planet Earth wont be here forever but keeping it here and keeping humanity for as long as possible is better to most people than having earth destroyed in a matter of a few years becuase we are ultimately making bad decisions.

Understandable, but my point is that the Earth itself has no value to anyone if humans are not here to live on it. I was responding to a comment from someone that believes that "the world" would be better off if humanity went extinct. It is just as irrational as someone trying to kill me in order to prevent further damage to my Xbox from my use of it ... the Xbox has no rights that I am violating just as the planet Earth and no other planet for that matter has rights capable of being violated.

You would be killing an entire species that actually has rights in order to save a bunch of dirt flying through space that has no intrinsic value. Sounds insane to me.
