If none take off it isn't proof that we were wrong about the Wii U, it is proof that console gaming is dead.

I'm very worried for the industry as a whole. What was once considered a success for a game is now considered a failure, and I only see the stakes being higher next gen. Don't be surprised if 5mil is considered a failure in the 8th gen.

Whats worse is that most publishers don't seem to understand why their games are not selling. Cevat Yerli explained that the reason why Crysis 3 did not sell well was because people are tired of the PS3/360 and that the current gen platforms are limiting them. We that this is not true and that the reason why Crysis 3 sold bad was because the game was mediocre. Yet they think that new powerful hardware will somehow make their games sell and unlock the secrets to making a good game.

I expect many studios to close down in the 8th gen. Even more than this gen.

This is a version of the 1980s crash all over again.  I do believe video gaming is entrenched in culture, but the bloom could be off it and maybe there will be perspective.  My post had to do with wondering how people would react if the bleeding of ink becomes the norm.  One needs to look at what is happening.  You have Cliffy B, who was behind Gears and big at Epic staying out.  You have the head of EA resigning.  And you see people thinking it is just need for new hardware.  It is hoping for a miracle.  

A recipe for disaster is lack of growth in new platforms being sold combined with rising costs.  And I see ever increasing of reliance on DLC meaning less new titles being sold.  It is pretty much fight for an audience behind one game, and then milk their wallet.

Well maybe in contraction and so on, I end up hitting it big with a book on telling people how they can use dollar store checker sets in far more interesting ways.

I think the future of gaming is Indies. The fact that Tomb Raider sold so well, and is being considered a failure is ridiculous. Indy developers can make just as good, if not better games. And they actually make games that are different and interesting. We're going to see big name publishers go the way of THQ, one of the big 3 might possibly step out, and we will see some great indy games.

I only see the big time developers and publishers to go bust. Smaller devs, like Platinum games, will stay because they don't need big bloated budgets to make games.I actually think that maybe Nintendo did do the right thing by not releasing a super powerful console and sticking with Unity, but that is not to say that it will be a grand success.

I see Square Enix as the next publisher to go. Versus will have a bigger budget than Tomb Raider and if it is a PS4 exclusive then it could be the final nail in the coffin for Square Enix.

I dont see the 720 and PS4 having a bad start in America, compared to the Wii U, sorry. Its going to be slow, but not as bad as the Wii U or PSP Vita.

It will be a bit ironic, if my CADERS group, which was a refuge for people fed up with the big budget bloatware and more into casual and retro gaming, which now means mostly Indie for new content, ends up being the top niche to be in, while the other stuff out there, and the AAA, everyone pile into Call of Duty bandwagon, goes bust.

On this note, I am wondering of the meaning of things if Minecraft is the top videogame I end up playing.  There goes all your high production values out the window.

If sales collapsed all around then I think as gamers it will be our responsibility to repopulate the planet with gamers. Obviously typical parents are improperly directing their children towards terrible mobile devices and calling that games.

It is up to us to pop out kids and do it right. A ground war might not be necessary but if we can't reach the numbers...well I don't want to think about the details.
