I agree. Just look at all the comments on games after they are revealed, they are all about how good it looks. Ppl are ready to blast a franchise but when a trailer pops up showing new better graphics, all is forgotten and suddenly ppl can't wait to play it despite knowing nothing about the game except for what was physicaly possible to see with our eyes.

I'll say that the PS4 sharing aspect that they showed is really what got me interested, but other than that, all we saw were games with pretty graphics like Infamous or Deep Down, and that was enough to make sooooo many ppl on the internet say ''this is a day 1 buy for me''. Rly?! All they showed was graphics that were better than previous gen and that is what you need to say ''day 1''? No questions asked?

what are your thoughts on those who say they just want a nintendo console because they say they'll get new iterations of mario, metroid etc?

if you ask me its the exact same thing...

you just have to acknowledge that just like people may want more of certain nintendo franchises the same may be said for oter companies

in addition to that i'd say that most of those who are excited for ps4 are also excitied not just because of graphics but also the variety of features they mentioned , ease of development etc

I find plenty of games with good gameplay and good graphics. I dont think one stops the other from happening. they can coexist.

Well, graphics can be compared technically and objective, thus it helps to say "my system is way better than yours! yóur system sucks!" Gameplay cannot be measured objectively, it is more an opinion and this can hardly be argued in forums.

Is this guy serious? Graphics have always been a huge focus every gen. I'd argue graphics were discussed even more in past gens because how radically different games looked on various platforms.

Much of the marketing in 16-bit and 32/64-bit eras were about specs and graphics.

The indie scene and digital downloads have been very successful in recent years because clearly not everyone just thinks about graphics.

That's what happens when the gaming industry gets Hollywood-style industrialized.

I sure wish only classic-arcade-roots console makers had a firm grip on the console market to at least stop it from happening there, but alas, reality sucks.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Well, I am still all about the gameplay.

Switch - Super Mario Maker 2 (2019)
3DS - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (Trilogy) (2005/2014)
Mobile - Yugioh Duel Links (2017)
Mobile - Super Mario Run (2017)
PC - Borderlands 2 (2012)
PC - Deep Rock Galactic (2020)

I'm kind of 50/50 on gameplay and graphics. Graphics matter to a point, but if the gameplay sucks, then the graphics don't mean jack.

Gameplay still matters. A game can't win Goty based on graphics alone.

BTW huge sly Cooper fan

then pls tell me why Skyrim won GOTY. the fighting system sucks balls. what a overrated rpg. i was so dissapointed. even oblivion was better. dumbed down rpg for the masses.

graphics don't have to be top notch with every detail. prioarity is they have to fit with the game.

Well, you know, Nintendo is still around. They still create games with great gameplay and a solid use of it. But maybe we aren't talking about Nintendo. As I well know, they are a "whole different ball game."

"...how close developers can replicate reality." We will see this more and more. Which is sad, I agree.

Why is that sad? Once we hit photorealism the focus on graphics stops.
